I am planning short and simple blog posts for February (as the novel will be taking up a lot of my time).
In previous Februaries I quoted tips from famous writers and described the good time I had finding the best places to write.

This year I thought it might be fun to quote great opening lines from novels, and great closing lines....and that it might be fun for you if I quote them one day, and tell you the next day who wrote them and which book they are from.

I've enjoyed delving into my books finding my own favourites, and will add some famous ones from online lists.

So here is today's first line:

I write this sitting in the kitchen sink.

What a great opening line- I haven't read this book but went to find out more about it after others had left the answer..I can see that I will have a long list of books to read by the end of February!

It does make you want to know more, doesn't it? Which is the whole idea of course...
