I am taking 'the novel' and reading it over for the first time since early March....gulp..
What is special about this place? Zizzi is light, airy, fun and has good food. I love the yellow chairs, the books as decor (well better than pulping them), the lights, the high open industrial roofspace, the birch trees, the murals. Well I like the idea of the murals - apparently they gave five artists one day to do them - and they are done with a kind of insousiance that is quite appealing - they don't take themselves too seriously. I like that the clientele is of all ages. I was surprised to find that Zizzi is a chain. www.zizzi.co.uk

I bought delphinium Pacific Giant as tiny plugs - buy 36 and get 6 free! - and have room in the garden for 10, maybe 12. I pricked them all out into cells, then into 9cm pots, then into one litre pots - they are now taking up half the greenhouse. The thing is I want to select the best colours....
A decision also has to be made about what colours to use in the three big black pots. I love to do something different with them every year. We've had lemon lavender and lime, and burgundy, black and deep pink. I wonder if I paint some canes blue and grow two, maybe three delphiniums in each pot, and squeeze in some blue petunias and lobelia, and if it's not too late to sow them some of that lovely blue annual nemophila Baby Blue Eyes? - watch this space! That leaves just 18 giant delphiniums to find room for (I'm not rational when it comes to the garden) and there is a mountain of manure in the drive.... This is the last daffodil to flower in the garden. It is jonquilla Pipit - quite tall with a smallish flower - elegant and prettilly scented. We're having a heatwave, the swallow and the cuckoo are here, and we move on to anticipating summer.
A delicious time of year! Yesterday it worked, Today it did not work. Windows is like that. To express one's thoughts In seventeen syllables is very diffi ...do you know any others? do share.... ![]() I love the way this little tree caught the light this afternoon, emphasising it's horizontal form. It is a very slow growing cornus controversa variegata, one of three, which will, eventually, be the stars of the garden. Also known as the 'wedding cake tree'. So, didn't they make a fabulous couple? Wasn't she beautiful? And wasn't the dress just perfect?....I couldn't watch on the day. I was on five trains, a car and a ferry.... |
