Little girls with dreams grow into women with vision
If your dreams don't scare you they're not big enough
Seen on a cafe wall today - made me smile. Little girls with dreams grow into women with vision If your dreams don't scare you they're not big enough

Help! I keep finding more! The thing is I feel I have to read everything before I throw it away. Why? In case I miss something I suppose...I am enjoying finding notes on some things I had forgotten, and there are some gems among the diary type notes I seem to have made over many years.... Andrew aged 3, to his father John I'm Ronnie's son John No you're not, you're my son. And who is Ronnie? The nursery bus driver And what makes you think you're his son? He says 'Good morning, son' when I get on the bus This lead to discussions about relationships and sitting beside his Mum in the car Andrew said I'm Daddy's son. Yes, said Laura, and what are you to me? A star! he said. Do you read through all the old stuff before you part with it? Since reading Fly Lady I try to go through paperwork every October now, but I could be more ruthless, and the current pile is years old. I am inspired by Madeleine who lost lots of archived papers in a fire and calls it a blessing! It's April and I plan to eat outside as often as possible - one of my favourite simple pleasures.
Another kind of reverse Advent calendar. You take out the drawer to find (this year) the jokes. When you put the drawer back you reverse it to create a picture of a Christmas tree. The jokes are the kind that make the children laugh and the adults groan - you know - Knock knock
Who's there? Snow Snow who? Snow use! I've forgotten my name again! It's always nice to chance upon a new blog you like the look of. I found Nib's End and the post about the price on the sole of her boots reminded me of the time at a family gathering - a wedding I think - when I was kneeling down to do something and my sweet daughter asked in a loud voice 'Mummy, why do all your shoes have red crosses on the bottom?' Not red soles note (Manolo, or is it Louboutin?), but red felt pen crosses denoting reduced in the sales. I pretended not to hear. Another nice find - £2.95 at Ikea. (Full price!) Thank you Cornflower (and John Lewis). Were we ever in more need of some light relief? Set aside all your reservations - too soon, too commercial (ignore the 'continuing story' bit for now) blah blah blah - and enjoy this full screen and with the volume turned up. I've watched it four times. So far. ..who can laugh at ourselves for we shall never cease to be amused. :-) Overheard from a three year old on the ferry today - I spy with my little eye, something beginning with BLUE! I was a little burned out by the end of September.. I was doing my hygge thing with candles on the table and flicking through the calendar to make arrangements with a friend when.....the end of September went up in flames! I think I remembered everything I was meant to do.... Things that made me smile today - The weather forecast. Sunny all day and ten degrees...double figures. Wow! A red squirrel bouncing across the garden trying to find her buried treasure. My washing up bowl The yellow daffodils by the yellow door Primula Gold Lace in its weathered old pot. And my new friend. Have you ever had a robin sit close to you and sing a very quiet little throaty song, almost like a whisper, hardly opening her bill? Very sweet. I hope you are having more smiles than tears today too. The warmth comes from the cosy bathroom and the greeting on the card from a friend! I've tried to create a sauna like feeling in our little bathroom - it seems appropriate in a Swedish house. (See more in this post)
The snow is still lying, and a hot soak will be just the thing. I hope you are cosy wherever you are. It was fun reading your comments on the previous post with this title, and before I drop the subject want to share just a little more with you. Aw rerry are ower rerr! A family at a service station looking around for the cutlery etc. This was a father speaking to his daughter. Oh, there they are over there! I laughed (affectionately) for days.... The writer Jackie Kay said she knew she was home in Glasgow when the taxi driver asked her Are you wearin' tha' ha' for a be' hen? Are you wearing that hat for a bet, dear/love/chuck/whatever endearment applies depending where in UK you live. Most Glaswegians of course are 'bi-lingual' ie they speak English too, so don't hesitate to visit if you get the chance! There are books (you can read quite a bit of this one online) and mugs and tea-towels and t shirts based on The Patter as it is known. I know that Liverpool and Newcastle, and famously London's east end, have their own patter and wonder Do cities in your country have such distinct dialects? I do love Glasgow! Do you like their slogan? And the police box? You may remember it appeared in another photograph in April... I wonder who decides to repaint it, and who chooses the colour. Fuchsia Pink next I predict. Do other cities in UK paint their old police boxes wonderful colours? Do tell. Well, what do you know there's a website! ..to find that the image on Cath's card is a painting. The artist is Quint Buchholz and you can see more of his magical, intruiging work here. I'm making..more cards, and plans for a wise and loving Christmas (see Julia's comment yesterday). What are you making? and something else to worry about!
..and very cheeky! I thought you might enjoy the story of a robin which features in this blog every now and then. (See yesterday's post) Read here about how we think he became so tame.... An eye for the main chance..ie my breakfast. Crumbs to entice him early one summer morning while I dashed inside for the camera. The light and the shadow were so beautiful.. He was so tame so quickly - we were amazed and delighted. It feels such a priviledge to have a wild bird trust you. A bad hair day? You wanted to get a soft towel and pat him dry! Hardly recognizable as the sleek bird above. Very patiently waiting for us to get up. We don't know of course if the robin which comes now is the same one that Ross shared his breakfast with. I say 'he' most often but it is very hard to tell male and female apart. We do know that the male robin will feed the female of a pair (and not vice versa) and 'our' male is bolder than the female. There was a year when two were equally tame. Barry was feeding one from his hand at the back door and called me - but I was feeding one from my hand at the front door! They have brought their babies into the garden some years, so the current robin might be one of the offspring of the original one, though they can live 10 or 11 years....It would have been lovely to have ringed them, but it seemed wrong somehow. The Life of The Robin (1965) by David Lack is our robin bible. Some interesting comment on social media here and here (thank you Julia). I laughed when Bruce Feiler wrote that he sent a tweet 'Then I waited for the love'. I also laughed at the cartoon of the man arriving home from work to be met at the door by his partner, hand on hip, saying 'What do you mean what kind of day have I had, haven't you read my blog?' The thing is not to take it all too seriously I think! Keeping it light then - You may remember these.. which tonight became these. Poached in water, lemon juice and sugar which was then reduced to make a syrup and served with lazy chocolate sauce (a Mars bar melted with a couple of teaspoons of milk.) Yum! Do you have seven minutes and ten seconds to spare? This video (thank you Sandi for the link) will make you smile, though surprisingly the good people of Nottingham who feature in it manage to keep straight faces. There must have been wonderful laughter and hysterical giggles in the making of it, and huge fun, don't you think? Love it! Here in Scotland, where the best word for our weather is 'variable' the best policy is to simply take your sunshine when you can get it - this is my early evening perch...... next to the robin's! I hope you had some sunshine today. Chalked on the pavement in Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow today - It says 'Don't grow up it's a TRAP'
I'd love to know who wrote it! And why.. |
