Every year about this time I have fun day in the city looking at this year's batch of children's Christmas books, and choosing what I think is the best one.
I've bought two this year. One of them is definitely for older children. It is Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy's The Christmas Truce , illustrated by David Roberts and published by Picador.
I can't do better than quote from the flyleaf :

A few pages in I knew I was going to buy this book, and treasure it.
