Simply Do A Good Deed....

We recently had our annual beach clean and collected 20 bin bags of litter!

Cath commented that this seems a lot.

It is a lot.

Our village has almost a mile of beach to clean, strung out as it is along the shores of the loch, from the houses on the far left of the photograph to where I am standing at the sandy beach, and because it is a sea loch litter gets washed in with the tides. (Some of it also gets washed out again..to land on some other beach, or to come back to ours another day!)

Winter storms are particulary bad for depositing rubbish on the shore paths as well as the shore itself.

It's a horrible job.

But if we don't do it, who will?

I hate litter.

our world needs people like you and your friends freda! i recently read a very good book about trying to live a zero-waste lifestyle and one begins to see the enormity of our waste-filled lives, and world....every small act makes a difference!

Litter is awful. Realising our oceans are filled with f.i. plastic makes me deeply sad and very motivated to bring all our plastic waste to the recycling point. I really appreciate you took the time to explain a bit more. The photographs explain without words the need to protect.

Unfortunately due to other commitments I could not take part in our beach clean this year. I am always amazed how much debris and plastic gets washed up on our shoreline. It was lovely to see the loch from this angle.

Thank you all for your comments. I was dismayed to hear that there is now a problem with litter in space! It's hard not to despair sometimes....but I do think there will come a day when all that waste in the oceans and in outer space will be worth something, and then we will find ways to retrieve it.

My grandson wants to be an astonaut when he grows up. If that's not possible he wants to be an inventor who invents something to clear away all the space debris. Isn't that a wonderful ambition? I hope he succeeds.

That is wonderful. I also hope he succeeds (and rather think he will) and that there are a lot more like him!

I know just what you mean about the Winter Storms washing up all the rubbish onto the beach - I hate it too and try and collect up what I can but it is a tiresome job. Beautiful beach.
