To celebrate completing our path (see here) we had a barbecue on the beach this evening.

Venison sausage, thyme and butter mash and baked beans. A glass of clean sharp vinho verde.

A ripe peach on the dying embers with a chocolate placed on top to serve, and I always save a little wine to have with dessert.

It was mild and still, the only sounds gulls, eider ducks, oyster catchers and the haunting sound of the curlews...

We stayed a couple of hours.

September's looking good.

I hope your September has got off to a good start too.

What a wonderful way to kick off September: venison sausage with trimmings on the beach with a peach and some wine to top if off! Cheers!

My ode to September today is nettle, potato and garlic sausage soup -- it's tastier than it sounds! The surroundings in the middle of a city are considerably more pedestrian though.

Your meal sounds delicious but I can't help thinking that even a cheese sarnie would taste sublime with that view to look out over.

We had leek and Reblochon puff pastry tarts followed by a selection of Indian sweetmeats my husband brought home from a visit to Bristol's renowned Asian food store. Not much of a view though!

We're all thinking food! I guessed Reblochon would be a cheese (but had to look it up). Sounds good. We are lucky with that view.

What a lovely thing to do - congratulations on finishing the path - does the loch ever flood that area. It looks like it was a beautiful evening. September so far has been a bit changeable, rain due for most of the week but yesterday afternoon was lovely and I managed to get a bit of weeding done. We have finished stripping the living room walls and everything is in disarray so it was nice to get outside for a bit.

I first tasted it in Lisbon with some oily fish - the contrast is delightful with oily or fatty or rich foods. I love it!

You must have been working so hard to achieve the completion of the path this year. Was it dark when you went back in and were there any stars out? And thank you for the sound of the curlews.

Barry did the hard work (I just took the photographs!) It is still light here till about 8.30 and we were back before that. Looking forward to starry nights as we don't have streetlights in our village we get good views of the stars. Do you?

Too much citylights here to be able to see the stars. I miss them.
Here's a beautiful quote: 'Our roots go deep, we are anchored in the stars.'
(Larry Dossey MD quoted it in one of his books, but there are more sources).
