There's not much for picking in the garden just now but this thug of a plant makes a surprisingly good cut flower. I had one stem in a vase a while ago (see here) and looking at the vases I realized I have quite a few tall thin ones so...I lined them up.

Do you ever find you make your best meals when you think you have nothing to make a dinner with?

It felt a bit like that!

Free fun.

I meant to ask yesterday - do you have a least favourite month?

November. With all the winter still to come. :(

I do think 'dreary' when I think of November!

January is my least favourite. It often feels a bit like an extended hangover after all the excitement of December, and yet the weather in Eastern Canada is usually atrocious with storms and very cold weather, so a lot of people hibernate other than to go to work. The days are also still excruciatingly short without the "Christmas cheer" to lighten things up.

February is also challenging, but by the end of it, the light is usually starting to appear at the end of the tunnel, because, if nothing else, the days are getting longer and so "SAD" symptoms are starting to get some relief.

January can be a bit of an anti-climax. On the other hand the start of a new year can motivate me. In February here spring can seem a long time coming..

It used to be November and February - but lately I find myself looking forward to each new month for the difference that it brings. You never quite know what is going to turn up. Last year I didn't suffer from S.A.D. like I usually do so perhaps being optimistic about each season is working for me.

Sounds like a good plan Elaine!

Gosh, I've never contemplated that question, which leads me to think that I probably don't have one ! What I do know, however, is that the older I get, the faster the months fly by! I can't believe it's September already!

I'm wondering if you perhaps have a favourite?

I don't think I have . I've decided I think in terms of weather rather than months. When we have day after day of grey as we have had this August I definately don't like August, but some Augusts are beautiful! When we have day after day of rain as we do some winter months......you get the idea!

February. It may be the shortest month, but it's the longest...cold, snow, more cold. I'm always glad to see it end.

Ah, February (now Fabruary). Probably not as cold here as with you.

It was January when a lovely lady called Freda, you might know her too ;), suggested to plan something nice for that month and I subscribed to a course. How well that worked.

So glad that worked for you! It was a writing course if I remember rightly?

the flowers and candles are absolutely lovely, freda...and yes,...i know what you mean about making do with what's in the house...it is one of my favorite challenges: to see if can i cook an interesting meal out of an apparently empty pantry?

A challenge to a little ingenuity is often fun!

Without a doubt, my least favorite month is July. Hot hot, glaring sun every day. I live in northern California, and I don't really care for our hot summers, but July tends to be the worst month. October is usually pleasant, and it starts to look like fall, so I love that. And in March the mountains around the Sacramento Valley are snowcapped, but our valley and the foothills are finally green!

Hi Karen - our least favourite months are almost opposite and for opposite reasons too. Your favourite has just started - enjoy!
