Simply Grow....

18/3/2017

A new stronger greenhouse is up and ready (no more sitting in on stormy nights listening for the sound of breaking glass!). The propagator is switched on and I am re-reading my own advice about re-designing a garden.

I love growing things from seed....

Simply Grow is one of the biggest categories on my blog, and I thought I would look again at my Design Your Own Garden Course which began here and this time I will answer my own questions as I start work on making the garden manageable by one small person (ie me!)

Can it be done?

This year will tell.

It must be spring! The seed catalogs & packets are out. Won't all those flowers look lovely in your garden. I never think of sweet peas until I see yours.

I love Sarah Ravens catalogues of plants and seeds. They will be lovely in full bloom. Sweet peas are my absolute favourites - I had them at my wedding and the scent was heavenly. Can't wait to see the new greenhouse - what kind have you gone for - wood / aluminium? Ours blew over and was twisted and mangled in the gales a few years back when we lost all the trees and I haven't had the courage to replace it - we are still finding bits of glass in the grass and beds. Here's to some peaceful nights knowing your greenhouse will be safe.

I have had that experience too! We should have bought a stronger one years ago. More on latest post Viv.

Every January I tell myself my garden is for enjoying myself gardening and I must simplify then every March I succumb to the goodies in the garden centre! More pots to make and look after but the colour in flower and foliage and delicious scents make it all worthwhile.I think?

I feel sure it's possible Freda. Maybe start with the hammock and work outwards from there!

Mine is almost all lawn now - I lost a lot of things last year when a well-meaning but misguided neighbour hacked down all the vegetation in my absence (and without my consent) including favourite plants concealed amongst the undergrowth... (Was so upset - it's MY garden!!) So I'm going for boring but manageable this year (I have kept one border) and then when I've got the heart to start again I'll do something creative but simple. I'll be watching your blog closely for tips!

Have fun playing with all those seeds in your new greenhouse. Planting colour - what joy!

Lovely that you have a new greenhouse and seed catalogues to dream over. Laughing at Lotta's idea of starting with the hammock. But, it is a little hard for me to think Spring (tomorrow?) when I looked out the window this morning...and saw snow. We seem to be going backwards into Winter. February was warmer than this. Sigh.

A very exciting prospect ,Freda. However it turns out, it will be your garden, and as you know gardens are never perfect, there is always something to change, to be moved, and most importantly , to be enjoyed ! Xx

My garden notebook is out! I had big plans for the garden this year but they'll have stay on hold (heating problems this winter ate our garden budget). But there's still a lot I can improve, can't wait! First of all: get a hammock!

My hammock was only about £12 from Amazon - hope the budget will stretch to one - best £12 worth ever!
