Simply Grow..and make a statement....

It occurs to me that with the addition of some white gypsophila my patch could go all patriotic this year! (See yesterday's post.)

Hmmm. Too gaudy.

In this quarter of the cutting patch I've put sweet pea 'Gwendoline'- pale pink with a very good scent, and a pot of mixed Spencer type sweet peas I bought when I thought I didn't have enough from seed. (I did.) In the centre are Shirley poppies as last year. Around them I will put Nigella damascene - pale blue with attractive seedheads, and euphorbia oblongata - lime green the same as the canes. All the way around the edge I've sown night scented stock - I adore the smell of this.

In the third quarter will be cosmos, gypsophila and poppy Cedric Morris with all its subtle un-nameable colours. I think I'll mix these all together like a meadow effect.

The fourth quarter will have everything that's left over! It already has alpine strawberries around the edges.

The planning is a big part of the fun....

Tea and toast on my favourite perch - yes, we're still having warm sunshine!

Your garden plan sounds wonderful, and I love your door and porch. We still have rain but not quite as much as the weekend!

You have just provided me with an enormous a-ha moment - I have only just realised that gardening needs the imagination!!! No one told me that - well, they probably did but I didn't notice. All I heard, from childhood on, was about weeding and digging, and then complicated things like pruning and splitting, sowing in drills and thinning and feeding. All such hard and dirty work!
That view has come through into my own gardening which never seems to get past mowing the lawn and cutting the hedge before they disgrace the neighbourhood; never gets on top of the weeds. My energy is always drained never fed by all this.
But today it finally clicked! I can see why you like it (and why you are good at it). Now I need to work on my gardener's imagination.
Thanks xx

You do need to work on your gardener's imagination Lynne until it fires you up and GIVES you energy - looking at gorgeous gardening books does it for me....and visiting really good gardens , preferably on warm sunny days..
