Simply listening....

29/12/2014

..to the mournful boom of foghorns in the Firth of Clyde this morning as we drove through thick mist to the funeral of a friend.

Then to the moving sound of two very beautiful soloist's voices at the church.

And later in the day to the merry chatter of an excited four year old as he told us breathlessly about his adventures with his new presents -'myremotecontrolleddumpertruckandmyremotecontrolledexcavator!'

Tonight as I write this I can hear the crackle of a log in the fire and the strident calls of some oystercatchers on the shore....(To hear their piping call click here and scrolling down a little bit click on audio.) They feed at night when the tide is out.

What have you been listening to today?

hi freda, my sympathy to you on the passing of a friend. it is hard to say goodbye, isn't it?
today, i was listening to the rhythm of the subway train wheels on the tracks in toronto, canada, the soft background music at the wonderful art gallery we toured; and the friendly chatter of our friends, as we caught up on each others' lives.
now, in my hotel room, on the 11th floor, in downtown toronto, i can still hear the rumble of the trains far below.

Hi Julia and Freda,

I'm in Toronto too, tho' am not on the subway line, so don't hear that particular noise while at home. It was a quiet day and the noise I heard most was the sound of the heating system in my apartment going into high gear as the temperature dropped a bit. I got a lot done -- it was a good day in the manner of Marie Kondo and her book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up".

Thank you for the link to the Oystercatcher web page, Freda. It really brings things to life to hear the piping sound -- it's a lovely touch.

So sorry to hear about your friend especially at this time of year. We took a long walk along the beach today and enjoyed the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore. This evening I listening to the birds heading out to sea for food before the sun set. Wishing you a your family a very Happy new Year. Sarah x

Right now I'm listening to....silence! The grandkids just left. Oh my! They get so excited & are so noisy; I wouldn't have it any other way. But now I'm enjoying silence.
I've found, too, that after Christmas, I'm ready for soft instrumental Christmas music. Before, I like the bouncy songs. Maybe it's that I need bouncy music to keep me on track & get everything done. Now I can sit back & relax.
Sorry to hear of your loss. We lost 2 family members in October so I understand your grief.

At the moment I am listening to the sound of an empty house, just me at home after a weekend of entertaining lots of family. It's such a contrast. I can hear our clock ticking. I've had that clock, a gift from my Mother, for thirty years. It's battery operated, I didn't know that it did tick! Penny Lx

It's been fun to think of everyone's different sound tracks. Thanks for commenting Penny.

and i wanted to add an after-thought....last night, after i wrote my comment, i was listening to the gentle snores of my exhausted husband who was trying his best to keep up with our art gallery schedule, which had been going on for 4 days!
