I've been writing about feeling a bit nervous about my plans for 2020.

Among other things I plan to finish editing my novel, live for a month in Venice, and start work on a big solo exhibition. 15 - 20 large paintings. Date is being decided....

No pressure then, as they say!

Gulp.

Wonderful! I, too, would like to live abroad for a few weeks, in the future when it is the right time for me to do it.

Here's my very wise carpenter's advice about avoiding anxiety or 'overwhelm':
" Break your projects down, into bit-sized tasks. Start one task, any one, it doesn't matter which. Give it your full attention, execute it to the best of your ability. Finish it. Have a cup of tea. Start the next."
(I hear this in his melodious Leeds accent).
I'll look forward to hearing of the gradual evolution & development of your projects.

Agree with Susan, 'chunking' makes things easier. Difficult tasks, difficult days are made more manageable by mentally chunking them - even getting up can be chunk 1. Make your chunks as small as they need be. Are you going to the Fortuny Museum in Venice, Freda ? Never been but would like to. Don't think I'd need to chunk that.

Yes to manageable chunks. There are no exhibitons at the Fortuny currently but I will be keeping an eye on it.

I’m gulping too, on your behalf!! Each of us is different in what seems overwhelming...but those large paintings would be a real challenge for me! How long does an average painting take you to make, freda? I could easily do 15-20 small collages, but large paintings! Whew! Good on you, girl!

PS I'm sure you'll have read 'Miss Garnet's angel'.
I'm not certain that I understood it all: so many layers of meaning and interlacing stories. (I'll read it again.)
But, evocative of Venice.

What a great understatement Freda.
What strikes me most is how you have gathered together: opening up to inspiration, expression and finetuning. All three aspects of the creative arts.

All sounds wonderful Freda! I can totally understand the gulp, but don't be nervous about all your favourite things... :-)
I'm reminded of a magnet on my fridge which says: 'What would you attempt do if you knew you could not fail?'
All will be a success in one way or another. And here's an idea, just in case you have not set your sights high enough... maybe next year you can combine the 3 and have an exhibition and book launch in Venice... and we can all come!
