In six months time Scotland votes on the question Should Scotland be an independent country?

I've just watched three programmes called Referendum Documentaries on BBC iPlayer.
I thought they were very good. Episode 3 in particular, Episode 1 for background (and I was least impressed with Episode 2).

I will be voting No, thank you.

To my mind there are enough divisions in the world already; I feel British first and Scottish a close second and am privileged and proud to be both; and I think the only people who would be better off would be the batallions of lawyers who will be negotiating terms for decades to come.

OK, OK - no more politics on this blog!

But I do find it fascinating.

Lawyers and power hungry politicians are probably the only ones that will benefit from a 'yes' vote.

I don't think there is a convincing economic case for independence really.

Even though my husband is Scottish we cannot vote as we live in Yorkshire full time and Scotland part time so we will have to leave the decision to others. We know people in both camps and both put up a good argument. There are a lot of differences already - the education system, the legal system and how they are applying waste management but I think these can still run alongside being part of Britain. I am not sure what the advantages would be really. I just hope we won't need a passport to get into Scotland when we come up or have to change currency!!

Oh, I hope you don't! I lived in Yorkshire for many years and love England AND Scotland and do think we are all 'better together'.

I think you are right - my better half's Aunt and Uncle think it would be a bad move to go independant and we would trust their opinion too.
