Simply savouring....

..some Indian Summer weather and the last of the flowers.

They are extra precious gifts the late flowers. This is an unexpected second flush of Campanula lactiflora. The colours seem more intense in the autumnal light, or do I just see it that way, lingering over them knowing that they will soon be gone.

At the beginning of September I was turning my attention indoors, but we are relishing the chance to soak up some warm afternoon sun, to eat outdoors, to pick some posies, to eat some seasonal foods....

Mine are re-flowering too and so are the roses pushing out late blooms in the cooler weather. We have had some rather balmy weather over the last week, but alas, it is raining today and rather miserable. But is has been nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the last days of summer.

here in eastern ontario, fall is the season for studio art tours, writers fests. i am relishing the cultural stimulation!

The Campanula I cut back and that survived last winter has been flowering since May. I wonder if it helped that I say a silent 'Thank You for giving me so much pleasure' every time I water it.
What I learned this summer and what really amazed me is that the first flower of a nursery bought Campanula is so very different from the second or later ones. I prefer the second bloom. It is so delicate.

How lovely to say thank you - I bet it helped! I wonder if the young plant was being given a lot of plant food which boosted it unnaturally. The wild harebell in Scotland is the most delicate and beautiful bell flower.
