I grew up in a Glasgow tenement - this is wonderfully romantic for me.
The book was recommended by a friend and I put aside my cynic and bought it and every now and then dip into it for a pretty idea or two..

haven't read this one but I agree w the blurb on amazon - pampering myself for myself, not just to attract a mate. I could probably read this in dribs & drabs, maybe even incorporating what she says into something more my style, but most likely couldn't read it straight through. let us know what you think & what strikes you.

I have to be in the right (non-critical) frame of mind for this. It's like short, sometimes rather good, magazine articles. Fun in other words!

Adding extras to the everyday experience is, I suppose,a form of mindfulness. It requires more concentration to set up and then you would be much more conscious of the actual experience. Sounds like a book for dipping into and pulling out those ideas that particularly appeal. Your coffee tray looks like it would pamper me, Freda, though might add a pastry!

It is mindfulness - exactly. You might as well enjoy it all. With the occasional pastry!

I'm intrigued that you are not far from your childhood home in miles, but light years in environment! Was it always the wish to have a garden, stunning scenery and peace?

I always wanted to live somewhere beautiful and have been fortunate (and particular enough) to have lived in many beautiful places Linda. it might be fun to write about them sometime,,,

It's the little ordinary but wonderful everyday moments that have kept me going during difficult times. Have you noticed that the blackbirds seem to have little phrases? There is one in my garden that says "We're not here, hahaha!" (I like to imagine they are playing some sort of avian hide and seek.) And a couple of years ago I had one that sounded like he was saying "Hello Marvin!" all the time. It makes me smile all summer!

Ordinary but wonderful can be so fulfilling if you pay attention. (I don't think my blackbird is saying much that I can understand!)

glad to know I'm not the only 1 who hears the birds 'talking'. I'm certain the cardinals are saying 'Leopold! Leopold!' and the blue jays are crying 'thief! thief!'

Hahaha! At home in west virginia, we have a rufus-sided towhee who sings all day: drink your TEA!!! And here at the cottage, a barred owl singing: who cooks for you? Who cooks for me?

I've just looked up all these bird calls on youtube and laughing because I could hear EXACTLY what you both described! Especially the barred owl - spot on!

Definitely short dips! And just occasionally. How significant that you've kept it! Nice.
