Simply..a different view....

It can be as simple as moving your chair from its usual place....

A different perspective can clarify things and make decision-making easier. I moved my chair closer to the mini-meadow in the sunshine this morning and decided yes, I could open the garden for charity in 2018 with the Scotland's Gardens Scheme, as I have done many times since 2009. (See here and here)

I thought I could not do it without Barry, but I have help with the grass cutting and hedge cutting, and some wonderful gardening friends have agreed to assist. (I may be too late to sign up - am waiting to hear!)

Decisions left alone for a while sometimes seem to make themselves I find. I just wake up one morning and the decision is made. Do you find this?

A little plate of fried potatoes and the sun on my back, watching the swallows raise their second brood, enjoying the precious early morning silence - all these things are conducive to making good decisions. And ten days without 'news' probably played a part - bliss....

This reminds me of the famous Miss Jekyll but I am not wearing a full length Victorian gown, I'm wearing jeans and clogs!

Yes we need time to hear our own news don't we. Glad to hear you are opening the garden again. I'm sure you will have many appreciative visitors.

I thought maybe the hop had wound itself round you in Victorian gown style and you were waiting for a passing stranger to cut you free! :-)
Glad you feel you could open the garden again Freda - if you're too late for 2018 maybe it could be a practice run?

I'm certainly one for putting off decision making until they make themselves! It's not procrastination, more of a positive weighing up of options until things become clear. Sometimes the mind just needs time to mull things over. Glad you are back!

I don't agonize over decisions the way I used to - I just have patience, and I agree it's not procrastination Linda. Shame it took me so long to figure this out though!

Decisions -especially bigger ones- need time to sink in I find. As helpful as a pro and con list f.i. can be, it sometimes doesn't tackle what my hestitation is about. The best way to describe the process needed for me then is that I allow 'it' to simmer a while. It doesn't disappear from my conscious but leaves my 'yes or no' mind to settle in a more creative and open space. And suddenly, when peeling potatoes or ironing or whatever it is I am doing the decision is there. All doubts gone because they were about valuable questions that were solved in the process.

Happy you are back.

What a lovely description of the process.

It's good to hear you are hoping to open your garden next year. It always takes me ages to make decisions - I sit on the fence weighing up the options for far too long! We do try and move seating around the garden as it is good to look at things from different angles, although I do discover more weeds this way! Sarah x

I spent yesterday - a warm sunny day - discovering so mane weeds I didn't know were there! But it was very therapeutic dealing with them and as the soil was moist from several days' rain they were easy to pull out....
