Perspective that is..

'Micri y megali? a nurseryman once asked me in Cyprus. He was offering me a free plant and having an all but empty garden I replied 'Megali, parakalo' and he dug up a geranium which totally filled the boot of the car!

I am moving from megali to micri in my perspective on things with a look at a Marie Kondo habit I have really liked. She described how when she came home she emptied her bag into a storage space then when she was going out again collected only the things she needed for that trip into her chosen bag.

It works a treat for me and is second nature to me now. I rarely forget anything,  don't end up carrying extra things and everything has it's place on the shelf so I can select in moments what I need. On this shelf are the bags I use most, spare folding bags in different colours, purse, phone, pens, notebook, timetables, Su Doku puzzles torn from a book, discount cards and vouchers. tissues, glasses case and sunglasses, umbrellas, hats, gloves - all stored to be visible in boxes I already had.

Do you have a favourite tip from Marie Kondo that has become a useful habit?

I've done something similar for years. I keep my purse(coins/cards), empty specs case, tissues, comb & brolly in a pretty box in my wardrobe. Each time I come home I empty the bag I have been using and put things back in the box. It's a way of knowing exactly where things are, but allows me to put handbags away empty. I think it stems from my office days, when what I needed for the day was quite different to what I would need at the weekend.

These habits support us in quite important ways, don't they!

No special tip, though your comment tripped a funny memory. I was attending a bridal shower a few years ago (not my favorite thing, but it was for my DIL) and one of the games was to see how many of the items (25) on their list could be found in one's handbag. The list included the usual things like a purse, but also some obscure things, like a sewing kit, scissors, tape measure, dental floss--you get the picture. I won. I had 23 of the 25 objects in my (not very large) bag--no one else was even close. They called me Mary Poppins and were just waiting for me to pull out the coat rack. :)

Well, i have simplified down to one purse for summer, and one for winter. So i simply put my purse away on top shelf in closet when i get home..and do fly-lady tip of clearing out the “debris” every friday. If there is a special occasion, i take what i actually need and put it into my chosen special occasion purse: credit card, lipstick, hand cream, driver’s license, phone. My top maire kondo tip is certainly...hold an item and see if it sparks joy..that is life-transforming in my opinion! For me, it might be easier because as a 30 year practitioner of yoga, i can easily connect with my energy.

It is so good to be organised! So freeing. Spark Joy and Kondoing have come into the language. Who knew a young Japanese woman could have such an influence in the world....

I think this is a great idea!

However, I don't use it because I have a small, natural leather handbag I use all the year round, about 8x5" in size. It contains my coin purse (actually a key pouch, has a tiny zipped compartment where there are always some spare Euros, since I live near the border!), a little book of all the cards I unfortunately need to have on hand (credit card, insurance card, driving licence, internationally valid ID, car rescue and so on...), my phone (= my life, organisation and entertainment!), comb, pen, lip balm. Slipped in for all eventualities are a spare doggy bag, a couple of headache/hayfever tablets, a hair elastic and grip and a neutral lipstick for all eventualities!). My house/car keys are on a lanyard that fits in, too, or in a pocket. I don't have to think about anything but picking the strap off the hook as I leave the house. Below it sits a larger tote with a few more bits and pieces in a pouch (like a charger cable and sunglasses) and if I need to take anything else with me (like my knitting...) I chuck everything in there and take that. In fact, I could throw a toothbrush and spare pair of knickers in and be off for a couple of days just with that tote :) Like!!

I remember reading once 'Enjoy being clever and organised' and thinking 'I am allowed to enjoy it?' Now I do, and so, clearly, do you. Yay!

I've only got one bag and don't have much in it so I prefer to leave it in there... (not much storage space in my house!) but I do make sure I clear out the receipts and rubbish when I get home. The Kondo folding method has really worked for me... my clothes and I are very happy with that!

I still prefer to hang things but love having them arranged like with like and all visible at a glance. Hurran for Marie Kondo who made being organised cool!
