Simply..a new sign....

I am keeping a look out when out shopping for new signs and spotted this one which looked a bit different.  Was it a new phrase to keep our spirits up? A political slogan perhaps? Something witty, poetic even? Italian speakers will be laughing already..

It says the intercom's broken.

How disappointing.
:-(

Here is Giulia's splendid banner.

Everything will be all right for most of us.
Sadly, not for all of us.

I am wondering if exposure to the news is as bad for our mental health as exposure to the virus is for our physical health.

I am doing my best to avoid both.

At the risk of sounding morbid, which i am not!! I would like to share a thought. It is a quote from someone, i can’t remember who, nor have it accurately here...but to the effect that despite all the evidence to the contrary, we all live our lives as though we will live forever!
Sadly, even without the virus, we will all lose loved ones, sometimes completely unexpectedly, sometimes very cruelly, this year. To me, the pandemic brings all this into focus. What i hope is that the result for many will be a deeper appreciation for this very day, for those around us, who we love and depend on, for laughter! And sunshine! Art and music! And terrific people who hang out signs...:-)

And thoughtful people, who let us know that the buzzer does not work!!

Not morbid at all Julia and I too would wish for such an outcome. I expect it will happen for some and that will be good. :-)

Your colourful bulletins from Venice are a tonic, Freda. Pleased nothing has attacked your sense of colour or humour yet. It sounds as if people are being encouraged to fly back from some areas sooner rather than later. Does this affect you too? Just heard all th schools her closing so my granddaughters won't be doing the exams they had worked so hard for.

We are well and though one flight has been cancelled we have another booled, but as you know things are changing all the time....meanwhile Venice fascinates still....

This is a controversial thought & some of your readers will feel that the answer is obvious:

I don't know how one evaluates the benefit/risk of government-imposed isolation.
How to weigh: enabling the survival of the relatively few (all be it tens of thousands), against the profound distress of the many (emotional stress, financial vulnerability, material hardship, the psychological harm that arises from loneliness and its physical manifestations.)

What an incredible thought! More wisdom here on this blog than anywhere else on the media just now...you are right, susan. Your remarks are controversial, esp in an age, where we try to say that ever single life must be saved, and at the same time, there are 7 billion of us...it does not compute..and besides, i for one, would not want to be “saved” by being on a ventilator, at my age, only to end up in a nursing home to linger, and linger...

How atuthoritarian do we want our govertnments to be though Julia?

Hi Julia.
I don't know where I stand on this: I am just interrogating myself.

I also think about this: that if those of us in the West (now an epicentre) suffer a period of hardship (through self or imposed isolation), our suffering will still be far less than the majority of people on the globe, experience in their normal daily life.

And, we may spare them (those already impoverished and without developed healthcare) their lives.

I guess logic alone can't provide answers to such questions with so many variables and unknowns. Not in a democracy...
Coronavirus may make philosophers of us all!

Good morning Freda.

Should we not be philosophers anyway?
I'm delighting (when I emerge from my burrow, to buy provisions) in overhearing people from all backgrounds and educations, debating the situation with each other (from the pre-requisite >2m separation.)

I'm also, valuing the joy and light in your blog.
Wishing you a good day's writing. Love, Susan

I like both signs - rotto is a fabulous word! I think I will adopt it for anything broken from now on. I have been checking in very briefly with the news each day just in case there is anything I actually need to know, but it is an ‘armour up’ quick in and out job. And I confess I would not be sorry if I just found the words BBC ROTTO tomorrow morning!

The rules in Italy are very clear and very strict and it is not hard to comply with them. Easier to get on with your days....
Strange times! Rotta times?
