Simply..a nice start....

..to the day.

Sunshine gets me up early and breakfast outside is one of life's best simple pleasures.

I like to keep a packet of these cinnamon buns from Ikea in the freezer. 15 minutes in the oven and they are ready for weekend breakfast or for guests.

Some nice decisions to make,

and a quick wreathe for the door from clematis trimmings.

It will look pretty for a few days. The leaves will soon droop and I shall then lay it flat to re-use  later without the leaves but with some autumn berries.

I hope you had a nice start to your day, (or can plan a nice start to tomorrow!)

So very happy to see you finally receiving some sunshine on your pretty yellow door. What a needed blessing for you.

Not quite such a nice start here today as the bands of rain from former Hurricane Harvey are working through my region. But we are very, very fortunate as it is simply off and on rain and absolutely nothing like the misery, loss and devastation the storm caused so very many people in TX and other states. My heart goes out to them. Some folks I know down there were away and still don't know if their house flooded as they can't even access their neighborhoods. Others evacuated during the height of the storm, rescued by volunteers in kayaks and small boats. But even these many days later, they know their houses remain flooded. They can't go home. As one woman put it, she is just discombobulated and so is focusing on gratitude throughout her day for small things like being able to take a shower and wash her hair at the home of a friend. A poignant reminder to step back and acknowledge gratitude for all I have.

It is heartbreaking to watch the coverage of Hurrican Harvey. I do hope your friends can recover their home and their lives. Nature can be so cruel and it behoves us to be grateful as you say Mary.

I had a lovely start too (a rare Saturday off) and sat and ate my breakfast in the sunshine by the brook. The kingfisher came to join me, just feet away... I sat very still and watched him for ages while he sat very still and looked for fish - wonderful!
I like your square tray.

Sarah Raven got my order, but I waited until I received a free p+p voucher! Quite hard to think about Spring as we have had some quite hot weather lately. Chilly at night though.
We went to Beth Chatto's garden yesterday. Came home and started hacking away at an overgrown hedge in slight despair! Didn't think of making a wreath out of the golden hop which is strangling everything. There's plenty more so thank you for the idea. A case of making lemonade I think. (When life gives you lemons).

Beth Chatto is my favourite gardener. An artist's eye, encyclopedic knowledge (spelling? Wreath!) and a lovely person. Lots of lemonade being made here....

no worries about the spelling Freda...I thought it was just 1 more example of our differences. how clever, though to create this from trimmings.

Warm enough to have breakfast on the balcony, and the rain stopping long enough to have lunch there too. After breakfast ironing in the company of Ludovico Einaudi's In a Time Lapse. A nice start and as a whole a nice slow day reading, writing, walking, some Kondoing and it being Saturday buckwheat pancakes to complete it.

It was very warm here yesterday but I we didn't have moment to stop and enjoy it - so much to get through this weekend - the jobs just never stop and it is work again tomorrow. Looking forward to retirement!!

I can see how busy you've been Viv and enjoyed your before and after tour - must take time to smell the roses too :-)

It would indeed be wonderful to have a sip of great wines while touring luscious vineyards, but lack of knowledge and information about your wine tours in California could hinder the experience as you waste precious moments trying to decide where to go. Your best bet is to do some reading before you set out on a California wine tasting tour.
