..of the back garden.

I'm thrilled that this photograph of the garden won photographer Andrea Jones 2nd place in the Garden Views section of the International Garden Photographer of the Year Award and appeared in this gorgeous book

The view was always fabulous but the garden when we bought the house did not inspire
...

I thought I would consider how it evolved as I start to redesign it...

How interesting and what a lot you have done to make the garden as beautiful as it is today. Was the view of the loch blocked by those conifers?

Yes Lucille and in the house the sink faced a blank wall instead of that view!

Such a thrill to have your garden included in a book and especially when it is your creation. It will be very interesting to hear how it progressed from a neglected plot to your loved garden.

I'm thinking that sometimes it's easier to design from scratch than to redesign an existing creation, especially your own... how do you feel about that Freda?

I prefer designing a garden to maintaining one and yes, it's easier from scratch, for me anyway.

The photograph captured a certain mood in the garden with that glorious lighting. Interesting to note how many different moods your garden has when considering the different photos you have shown over the years. The early photo of the property before you began all your work really demonstrates your remarkable efforts in bringing it to its full potential.

I have loved phtographing it in all it's moods Mary. That shaft of light striking the red gate is just perfect isn't it! Andrea is a very patient photgrapher and waited hours for that.
