Simply..a short break....

26/6/2018

I'm taking a little blog break as I seem to have run out of steam! Lots of ideas but little energy to carry them out. Maybe it's the heat. We are not used to it here..

Picture

Maybe I should just gaze at the patterns on the water for a day or two.

Maybe I should eat less cake. (We had two cakes at the party! There were leftovers.)

Picture

Maybe I should just eat less altogether. I had lunch today with a friend who is a wonderful cook.

Picture

maybe it's because I still haven't caught up with my emails.

Whatever.

Any tips on restoring energy levels most welcome.

Heat, possibly, but maybe the last few very busy weeks of gardening have just caught up with you. Have a nice rest!

I think you are right Linda. I'm not very good at 'resting'..

Yes...just breathe..BE.....stare at the water..do not “should” on yourself...do not regret the cake...and you could have an “OOPS!” Moment with all the unanswered emails....they could simply disappear...or you could write a group reply explaining that you love everyone, but the ripples on the water are just too beautiful at the moment...now for a long story. I was taking a yoga therapist training. A fellow student and i shared an hour-long cab ride to the airport and she explained that she was a receptionist at an addiction treatment retreat center where the foundation of treatment was forgiveness...as we were saying goodbye, i asked her: linda! Do you have any parting thoughts for me? Her answer was: when it comes to forgiveness, start with yourself!

And by the way, Freda...if that is the kind of lunch (and cake) available at your house, and your friends’s houses...i’m on my way!

Julia I hadn't even realised till I looked again that I uses the word 'should' in almost every sentence in this post! Thank you for your most helpful comments - the group email would take the (self-imposed) pressure off. and I do regret the cake as I felt awful all the next day and am wondering when I will learn!
I will forgive myself and move on :-)

Stop, rest in the shade, eat cooling foods, drink cool drinks, do nothing.
Repeat.
Until you fancy .. writing a letter, phoning a friend, going for a stroll.
Wait until you do. Just do nothing and wait.

Oh I find it so hard to do nothing and wait! It is a skill I could learn....

I quite understand.
I, too, relax by doing - something entirely engaging.
(Although, sometimes I just have to lie down and stare at the ceiling/sky)
I see that rusty duck has given you an idea.

It is the heat, we’re just not used to it. Down here also. And like you I used to be used to it, living in the south east. It seems to make no difference at all! Take it easy Freda. Love the shot of the loch, beautiful.

I looked out of the window as I was writing this post and saw this. I can always stop long enough to take a photograph of something beautiful.
You have given me an idea - to just spend a day or two taking photographs? Taking it easy doesn't come easy for some reason!

If I had some time off my own restoration plan would be to potter around the house, go for a walk, read in the garden, ring a friend and perhaps take time to make some new healthy salads - and I would definitely grab my sketchbook and water colours and find a nice place to go sketching with a picnic.
Hope you will discover your own restoration plan. Take care Freda - PS - if the Waverley comes past the end of your garden we will be sure to wave!

I can't do better than all the suggestions here. My only addition would be that if you are finding it hard to rest, do the things that bring you the most joy... joy is very restorative :-) As is that view!!

I am remembering my word for the year which is gently - gently joyful would do the trick

Sometimes we don't realize how hard we've been running until there is simply no energy to take another step. Excellent time to just stop, have a cuppa (or ten) and take in the scenery (photos optional). Enjoy the break.

Exactly. I didn't realise how much work the garden would be - but I am so glad I did it!

Such good replies from everyone. Definitely drop the 'shoulds', too exhausting! Everything else in nature rests but humans, it seems. I am watching my gorgeous dogs snoozing with not a care in the world. They certainly don't feel guilty for resting! What wise teachers they are.

Could I suggest funny movies? Perhaps with a glass of champagne and whatever else tickles your fancy?

Take care,

Madeleine.x

Just off the top of my head, a few very funny French films - Happiness Never Comes Alone, What's in A Name?, Amelie. And there are always the Bridget Jones movies!

Or the BBC series 'The Detectorists' which can be bought online: very gentle observational humour.

Fabulous and insightful comments from everyone. I hope you relax and absorb every particle of beauty from that view Freda! La famille Beliere is a French film that we all enjoy. I highly recommend it to make you smile! Pennyxx

We have plenty of sunshine here in Texas but we need rain badly. Everything is crunchie. Even the weeds aren’t growing. So really enjoy all your photos.
