I have only recently discovered that jays as well as squirrels bury acorns. Has anyone tried growing one in an acorn vase? I mihgt give this a try.
..half way down the path to the shore has more acorns than ever before. (Last year it had none.) I have only recently discovered that jays as well as squirrels bury acorns. Has anyone tried growing one in an acorn vase? I mihgt give this a try.

We are inundated with Acorns and the Squirrels are happy. They are always trying to bury unshelled peanuts in my flower pots. The Acorn Vases are beautiful.

A good year for oak trees, then? I didn't know about the acorn vases - they are beautiful.

There is something very perfect about an acorn and how the two parts fit together. There was a BBC programme on called The Oak Tree, Nature's Greatest Survivor and it explained why the trees have bumper years of acorns. As is the way with plants it is to do with increasing its chances of reproduction . Fascinating insight into the life of an oak tree. Doubt my garden could accommodate one, though.

Bonsai? Seems that program is no longer available, which is a pity.

I've not heard of acorn vases before and am wondering how you pot them on without damaging the root system . Our resident squirrels bury acorns all over the garden and paddock ,mostly in highly unsuitable places but we have two young oak trees along the boundary hedge line that grew from squirrel planted acorns.

It must be a delicate operation potting them on. Perhaps they can sustain a little bit of damage.
