Are you afraid of the dark?
Or do you find it attractive, or comforting?
I'm exploring the dark, inspired by Tanizaki's book In Praise of Shadows (see posts here, and here).
As a lover of light and colour, and a fan of all things white, I'm finding it somewhat disturbing and unsettling...but Tanizaki does say some beautiful things about darkness -
I wonder if my readers know the colour of that 'darkness seen by candlelight'. It was different in quality from darkness on the road at night. It was a repletion, a pregnancy of tiny particles like fine ashes, each particle as luminous as a rainbow.
I am looking anew at the (few) dark things I have around my home....
