I've been enjoying reading blogs by people who live in Venice and this post interested me, especially the mention of San Michele which I've visited.

ln preparation for our winter month in Venice I'm swotting up Palladio (I always was a bit of a swot, and have decided to own up!)

Getting excited about February again.

Imagine.

I have never been to Venice (one day!) but have been fortunate enough to see a few Canaletto paintings in museums elsewhere that have fascinated me; I like the geometry of architecture!
The book 'Venice for Travellers' by Louise Begley has been on my wishlist for a long time - do you know it and/or can you recommend it? Its description reminds me of one of Germany's best international actors, Ulrich Tukur, who lives there, too, with his photographer wife, Katharina John. I once read an intriguing article about their eccentric life and they have written their own hommage to the city (only in German, though).
Of course, all this does really make me want to go to Venice...

I read Venice For Lovers some years ago (but didn't keep it!). I will do a post on the books soon Swissrose....and you must get to Venice some day.

What is "swotting up", I thought, and "Palladio", and what is 'the bit of a swot" you want to own up to?
Like in a jig saw puzzle and with the help of the internet I gathered the pieces.
So now I know you always have invested much energy in studying, wanting to be among the best in class and your subject is the architecture by Palladio. Ha!

Come to think of it I like how you wrote that better.

I really like a good puzzle! And it was a bit funny/strange/weird to find myself reading something and not having a clue what it was about. A bit like by accident having crossed a border into a foreign country :)

I enjoyed reading about Venice too! It reminded me that you will there for the carnival. When you lived there previously were you there in February? Sarah x
