Simply..an island adventure....

I've just spent a few days on Colonsay with friends - my first visit to this small island - and what weather!  Glorious!

So lucky.

The small population were holding a three week spring festival and we took part in a guided walk to Oronsay which can only be reached at low tide (led by a local who was at Glasgow School of Art at the same time as me - small world), seaweed foraging, a talk with photographs and song about the past 100 years on the island, and a tour of the gardens of Colonsay House.

The woods were full of bluebells and wild garlic and the fields full of lambs and corncrakes.

This was our picnic spot, looking across to the island of Jura. (I walked over 17,000 steps that day!)

Do you like visiting islands? And have you a favourite that you visit again and again? It was clear that many visitors to Colonsay have been going all their lives and know each other well, meeting up as old friends each year.

Glorious indeed! Fabulous photos Freda. I'm glad it was proper picnicking weather. :-) It looks like the kind of place that recharges body and spirit...
I love islands - I feel very at home on them. I've only visited two or three around Britain and Ireland, but have returned again and again to one of the Hawaiian islands - a quiet, unspoilt, beautiful part of the north coast on the island of Kaua'i. It has a special place in my heart. I feel simultaneously happy and homesick just thinking about it...

Colonsay looks idyllic and wonderful that the weather was so good for your stay. My favourite island changes with each new one I visit though, must admit, Arran always stays near the top of the list.

I've only spent a couple of hours on Arran, but Millport on Great Cumbrae was where we spent most childhood holidays. All idyllic when the weather is good!

Oh Freda! Another one to add to my Travel Dreams list ... Funnily enough, I nearly always go on holiday to islands. I wonder why? Of all those I have visited in Scotland, Mull is the one dearest to my heart.

Oh too hard to choose a favourite. Perhaps like Sheena the most recently visited...

Freda...these are breath-taking! One might be looking at a caribbean sea...i cannot tell..am i looking at clouds in the distance or more islands? An island to add to my own list also. We've enjoyed the bahamas and bermuda...must take a look at your own idyllic land!

I will try to arrange the weather that makes it look like the Bahamas!

It is great to see the islands you visit through your eyes. it could very well be I will never see them with my own, so I am grateful for another armchair journey.

Colonsay looks wonderful there is something magical about islands. They seem to have retained their own identity. We are off to Anglesey on a summer holiday this year. There are some lovely islands in Denmark and Croatia and of course Scotland has so many too. Sarah x
