The birds who are singing every morning when I wake up definitely think Spring is on its way. They fell silent in the snow and cold weather last week, but they’ve been singing with a vengeance these last few mornings! Pennyx

That's nice to know Penny! You sent me to the door to listen and yes they are singing, a little, in the pouring rain, lovely things.

Well, the days are definitely lengthening, and the contrast here between last week's snow and -5 degrees and today's blue skies and bright sun is cheering. We have one or two daffs out, so things are underway!
(I've been thinking of the people who grow for the Chelsea Flower Show - the last week must have caused them problems!)

It must be stressful! On a different scale I am beginning to stress a bit about my own garden...I've agreed to open it for charity in mid June. Yikes it is just mud out there at the moment!

After raking all the debris in the front yard from the windstorm here last week (two very large piles of sticks, etc), I did manage to see a tiny clump of daffodils trying to open their buds. First spring colour I have seen. Of course, it did snow a bit overnight, so it might be a while before there is more.

In Washington, the cherry blossom trees around the Tidal Basin (Jefferson Memorial) are often a harbinger of spring. Best guess for the bloom to begin (which only lasts several days, especially if weather turns windy/cold) is between March 17-27.

The bunch of daffs I bought more or less died before they opened properly and the dog wagged the buds off several in the garden, which thankfully have opened up in a small vase (short stemmed wagging!) so I am now hoping to get pictures of my Freda shawl :) x
