Simply..big change....

I like my grassy driveway.

and treacherous!  Each winter seems wetter than the one before and the drive turns into muddy puddles (or puddy muddles as Scott put it) and the grass gets more and more slippery, so before someone is injured...

Angus arrives with his machinery tomorrow.

I like your grassy driveway too , it reminds me of Scandinavia. Understand mud ,we do that very well on our drive way! Looking forward to seeing the big changes and hope the machinery doesnt make too many puddy muddles...

As my address is Swedish Houses it's nice that it looks Scandinavian.
The machinery has not turned up yet - broken down van!

Your driveway suits the surroundings but a limb in plaster never makes a view look better and muddy paths are just an annoyance. Good idea to take control of the problem before it becomes any worse though I suspect it may look worse before it is better. Maybe keep the end result in mind.

Good advice Sheena. It is good to take control! I think from the comments you can all tell I don't really want to change it.....

Yes, important to be pragmatic, however beautiful the grassy drive.
However, I do like country lanes, where the tall grass in the centre, cleans the underside of my car.

Reluctantly pragmatic, but needs must...

I love the grassy look, but sometimes practicality has to win out. A few weeks ago a grumpy delivery driver came to my door ranting about something that had just happened in the street that meant he couldn't park where he wanted and how he was going to report my neighbours etc etc... and had wound himself up so much that when he left he didn't take my path but took the shortcut down my wet sloping lawn... Needless to say he did the last few feet on his backside! (Karma?!) Luckily only his pride was hurt, but yes, wet grass can be treacherous...

You made me laugh Lotta and accept that I could be sued if someone got hurt!!

Laughing at Lotta's story. Karma, indeed.

Good luck with the works in progress today! Slip sliding away only sounds good in Paul Simon song.

I am too sentimental about this place I fear!

Yes, i feel sad to see your pretty country lane go, too Freda, but can think of several friends who’ve been badly injured and laid up by slipping on wet grass...for an entirely different reason: soil slippage, not person slippage, we are having massive changes at home too. And many favorite plants and trees will be lost. But it has to be done, and the sun still comes up every morning...:-)

A good reminder Julia - there would be nothing romantic about anyone's broken limb. Good luck with your changes too.

It's that toss up between something looking beautiful yet knowing that it can't stay like that. You'll be glad of having had it done before winter.

I will be glad of it Linda - you are right. Angus cancelled (van broke down) so I just hope I do get it done before winter!

what everyone else said. the grassy drive goes so well w your house, but can be a hazard. asphalt can be just as slippery so be careful on that, too.

I too like your grassy driveway.
I too like it more you are safe from treacherous wet grass and puddy muddles (Thank you Scott, you are a word artist).

Yes, treacherous is not good or wise. Scott is nine and loves to play with words.
