Simply..Christmas Past....

My Artist Date this week was to look through my Christmas posts - there are a lot! (See sidebar).

Here are some of my favourites. This one about waiting for snow reminded me of how I felt just the other night, this post made me think I am calmer now about Christmas than I was in 2013.
There are a lot of posts about childrens' Christmas books especially in the early years of the blog. This was one for older children. And in this post I describe a very special memory of a child just beginning to read.

Many happy memories and I shed not a few tears that Barry is not here to share this Christmas.

The last Christmas card he gave me however has a very special message, which I try to keep in mind.

His joyful heart of love will always be with you in the memories you keep, bringing smiles as well as tears. xo

What a beautiful message to leave you with Freda - will be thinking of you over this Christmas period. I hope it is peaceful for you and full of wonderful memories even if tinged with great sadness. x

I am very sorry that Barry is not there with you.
When the time comes, I wish you as much enjoyment as can be found, with your family and friends.

I've enjoyed looking back at these posts Freda - love the magic moment with Ross learning to read, and I'm wondering if you can remember which book it was in the parcel that YOU opened early when you were waiting for snow?!!
What I find so lovely about Barry's card is that the message gives you absolute permission to be joyful, and so often there is guilt feeling joy amidst grief... but you have his blessing to be as joyful as you are able at any time... x

Your tears are both deep grief and a celebration of life with Barry.

Your Christmas posts are delightful Freda and so many memories to treasure ! I find that as we get older the festive season is full of such bitter sweet memories. I'm full of admiration for the courage that shines thru your blog and allows you to laugh and to cry. I hope you spend a happy peaceful Christmas with those you love and who love you dearly. Hugs !

Grief, especially at Christmas time, is 'the elephant in the room'. It is hard to know what to say but I feel I can't not mention it. As Mary B said it is bittersweet for all the men, women and children who have been bereaved and are putting on their bravest faces. I do appreciate your kind comments.

This is my first Christmas since my darling mum passed away and I am constantly reminded of her when hearing songs and seeing images of Christmas cheer. This makes me feel both very sad and very happy to reminisce at the same time. I thought of just that when reading your card. We’ve both been so loved and it’s hard when that person isn’t around any more. I hope you have a happy and peaceful Christmas
