Simply..doomed to Zoom....

(I may have used that line already!)

But where would we be without Zoom, WhatsApp and Facebook? Lonelier than we are already is where we would be. My  social life is on devices- family, friends and book group, coffee mornings, crossword evenings, Saturday nights with my sisters....it's wonderful.  Even if as it were, one step removed from reality. And you know how I like 'the real thing';.

Susan wonders if everyone feels they want people in their homes (yesterday's comments). I had not realised until lockdown that I am really a much more sociable person than I thought I was. I like my own company but not all the time! I really love having visitors - for coffee, to sit in the garden, for dinner - especially if they are staying over and we can sit and talk till late....maybe its the thing that most makes my house a home.

What about you? How is your social life?

I think it will be a long time before we ever get up to your part of the country again and maybe even see you for a cup of tea. I do miss our visits up to Scotland and across the water so much.

I miss the spontaneity of my social life although, as an introvert, too much can be hard work. I badly miss being able to have a couple of friends in for a gin evening or a garden lunch. Zoom etc are amazing and it’s probably an illusion that they take more scheduling. Actually no, they do take more scheduling because, when I’m socialising with friends who have family living with them, such things as homework and computer access all have to be accommodated. Whereas a pub lunch would be free space and time for everyone. We will get there and never take sharing a bag of crisps in a beer garden for granted again.

Lots of things we want take for granted again! I do appreciate what you mean about spontaneity. How lovely that will be again!

We are all learning things about ourselves during this time!

I'm using this time to make my home as comfortable, joyful and welcoming as possible, for when friends can return.

Like you Freda, missing having a range of friends round for coffee and meals. One or two chance conversations as paths have crossed on walks. Enjoy What’s App and FaceTime video calls with family and such a joy when my son arrives in person with shopping etc. I hadn’t realised just how much I looked forward to evening sociability whether a g&t with a neighbour or a visit to the cinema. And missing Scotland and all my friends there and the Yorkshire coast so much.

It does make us appreciative of what we lost, but that a small comfort sometimes. It will return!
