Simply..enchanting....

Gold coins (chocolate!) spilled out of a mystery parcel as I unwrapped it. There inside the tissue paper were cinnamon sticks, tiny wooden trees. stickers and these Swedish Angel Chimes. As the cherubs spin merrily around in the heat from the candles they make the sweetest tiniest tinkling sound.

I put out the lights to enjoy it better and it made me think of simpler times when this might be the main, or even only ornament in a simple home apart from branches of pine or a small tree from the forest, and perhaps some paper stars...It may have been made by a family member and passed down through the family. It may have only been lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day itself.

After the excesses of the city lights (and I do enjoy the city lights) this unexpected gift made me want to make my own Christmas this year even simpler.

Thank you M!

An aunt of mine had a set of these when I was a child, and she absolutely loved them.

A memory from childhood. We always had one on display at Christmas. I loved it when my mother or father would light all the candles so we could hear the twinkling sound.

They are new to me and they are so sweet.
It seems to me many of us are in search of the essentials for Christmas. Maybe the tinkling remembered from childhood is one of them.

On a sidenote: I wrote a little more information about the book I mentioned yesterday in yesterday's comments.

What an enchanting gift indeed ! And wasn't "enchantment" your chosen word for 2019? There's a little Swedish shop very close to my school. I must have a look to see if they have any ...

Indeed it was - and a very good word it proved to be. I'd love to visit the Swedish shop!
