Simply..fragile....

Isn't it amaziing that these fragile things can grow into sturdy plants tht will cover a couple of squarre metres and flower for months?

It's gypsophila Covent Garden, a real favourite. Although it was last year's seed they gerninated in about a week in a small heated propagator.

It is a source of amazement to me each year that a tiny seed can contain so much beauty and give me so much pleasure. I have pots of tomato seeds in the airing cupboard, towels dumped on the spare bed, to germinate and every day I inspect them and such joy when the first wee shoots appear. With you all the way, Freda, and will admit to showing 3 or even 4 year old seeds.

Lovely new fresh green plants, Freda.
I, too, continue to sow older seeds, sometimes in between new ones.
And when they're very old, I 'guerrilla-garden' sow them, on municipal wasteland - even veg!

Good for you! Even if they don’t germinate, birds and mice and ants will feed on them, or they will rot down and turn into soil...

The delight and excitement of new seedlings showing never changes does it ? Spring and the new growth with promise of summer bounty just lifts ones spirits.
This morning I saw a blackbird with a beak full of nesting material and yesterday saw Blue Tits visiting one of our bird boxes.....Spring has arrived 🙂

Plants are what I've 'done' for most of my working life and I still find myself lost in awe at their resilience, variety and beauty. It is ALWAYS worth a try with old seed and the pay-off is even sweeter.

I should have started earlier though, as if they don’t germinate and I have to buy new seat and start again I can get a bit behind. Fingers crossed for the schism thus!
