Simply..giving at Christmas....

..though I received far more than I gave at this year's Glasgow Hospitals' Christmas Carol Concert. It raises funds for Clic Sargent who look after children with cancer and their families, and the choir, conductor and the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra and special guest give their services for free.

A meal out, the excellent concert, and drinks till 3am with the friends who sing in the choir made a wonderful start to the season!

Scottish pianist Steven Osborne played Beethoven, Brahms and Oscar Petersen. I love his website and blog and his playing was superb, but joining in with the traditional carols -In The Bleak Midwinter being my favourite - and listening to children sing always brings a lump to the throat. So beautiful.

This is what I want Christmas to be about this year - the nicest traditions, generous giving, and the company of all the people I love best.

The planning starts now.

How do you want your Christmas to be? And how can you make it happen?

I love your plan for celebrating the Christmas season. Am even more impressed that you could stay out with friends until 3 am. Bravo!

Low key Christmas here. No frantic buying (all the adults in the family decided not to give gifts except to the children), simply focusing some reading/play time with the grandchildren--who are already well supplied with playthings--and a family gathering on Christmas morning.

We did have fun. There was singing and too many cocktails. Your plan sounds lovely - who needs frantic!

traditions have changed over the years. now I look forward to quiet days when the tree lights on, soft music playing, a hot cup of tea & a good book liberally sprinkled with meet ups with friends. really trying to distance myself from the frantic pace I see in so many. minimalism has helped me appreciate the slow pace.

Aiming for a meaningful Christmas around here, balancing tradition with the Christmas madness JP is learning everywhere... it can be tricky!

Very tricky but what you choose to make it will win out!

Lovely, Freda. Far better than shopping 'til we drop and getting frazzled over Christmas plans! Bringing joy to others is my main focus, and spending time with the people I hold dear.

I do think of you in the southern hemisphere when I write as though we were all getting snow! Your Christmas must be very different to ours - but avoiding getting frantic, frazzles or mad seems to be a common problem wherever we are. What a lovely thing to focus on.
