..for tulips, curry plant and a couple of stems of raspberry.

A tip. If your flowers are a bit short for the vase crumple some of the cellophane in the bottom. I spotted this in a branch of Waterstones last year.

It's quite pretty in a clear vase....

Life has taken on an element of farce lately!

I got blown out of the car in the hospital car park and in the blink of an eye found myself on the ground wondering how I got there. (Right place? Someone rushed over with a wheelchair! Fortunately I didn't need it, I was only bruised). I got a nasty tummy bug which meant I couldn't visit Barry in hospital even when the ferries were running, we had a power cut (not very long but long enough that I had to make contingency plans) and the computer and phone were down, and right at the tail end of the latest storm three panes of glass blew out of the greenhouse. Actually they were sucked out - the broken glass is all on the outside - how could that happen? Much the same way as I got sucked out of the car I guess.

Barry continues to be a patient patient as they proceed with test and more tests.

If you can send me any links to anything funny, I sure could do with some laughs....

Freda,

I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through so much all at once. I sent good vibes you Barry and you in my morning meditation today and will continue to do so until Barry is back home making a good recovery and things settle down for you.

This isn't humour, but it is a weird story a la Kafka (or perhaps Monty Python.)

About a year or so ago, I was visiting with family. My brother was watching a movie and it was getting late. My sister commented on the volume to me and asked me if I would ask him to turn it off when I went to bed. Soooo,....I went downstairs to do the deed. My brother protested, indicating the movie was almost over -- it had about 20 minutes to run. I asked again, pleading the desire above for quiet and he didn't do anything. About 3 seconds later, I turned around to go to my room, and, as I was turning around, (I kid you not) <<POOF>>,...the power went off throughout the house!!

My brother grumbled, glared at me as though I were some evil deity who had commanded the power outage to avenge his impertinence, and my niece magically appeared out of nowhere, lighting candles all over the place, doing an impressive impersonation of Florence Nightingale. The movie was indeed over for the evening and all was quiet - mission accomplished.

My niece then went out to investigate what was going on and the hydro men who were, very conveniently, just outside the house, told her that a transformer had blown at a nearby substation and that they were working on it but weren't sure how long it would take to fix.

Meanwhile, upstairs, my brother-in-law was woken up because his CPAP machine that helps him manage sleep apnea had stopped working when the power went out. He had quite a fright because he stopped breathing for a moment and was furious about the power outage.

'Twas a strange evening.

If you can get hold of a book called Very British Problems (making life awkward for ourselves one rainy day at a time) by Rob Temple I can guarantee it will raise a smile.

Why does it seem that when one is down, life sometimes has a way of adding an extra kick or two. Sorry to hear about being sucked out of the car--Mother Nature at her most charming.

As to a link to something funny, I can sadly report that I am clearly not on top of the funny game as I could not think of any links. I could point you to the US elections, but that is more farce than humor (and frankly, depressing). However, I did find a humorous adaptation of the serenity prayer that seems to apply to me these days:

God, Grant me the Senility
to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones that I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
Amen

Wow, Freda, sorry about all of this... life is weird as that. Sooner than later everything will be more normal, at least that's a though I try to keep in mind when take-backs in life follow in a row (why do they ALWAYS come in rows?!). As for funny links, although they are not my speciality, here are some Ted Talks that may help :

Sending you and Barry good vibrations...

Why do they always come in ROWS complete with stalkers (in real life and on the internet), "food poisoning" and ridiculous (statistically almost impossible) medical test results.

The cellophane is a brilliant (literally?) idea.
I confess I first searched if it's appropriate to use the word at all and here, the Oxford dictionary doesn't have it, the urban dictionary obviously has, do please excuse my language but it best describes my initial response:'getting sucked out of a car sucks.'
And now I am off to hide in shame.

Hopefully the tests soon will be completed. In the meantime thinking of you both.

That's it now Freda, you're not allowed any more bad luck, you've had your quota for the year! I admire your resilience and I hope that a few tears and a good laugh will have restored some balance - Lucille's suggestion sounds good. Great tip for the flowers, thank you. I love tulips, they always seem to bend over after a few days though... maybe I need a taller vase!

Oh Freda, I'm sorry to hear you're going through so much.

Nothing funny to share, but this video montage of dogs in the snow brought a smile to my face. Hope you can access it.
