Simply..hygge, hammocks and the scent of quince....

A lot going on today but not the work that was planned! - Angus's van broke down and the job is rescheduled for Monday. :-(

Thoughts start to turn to those hygge things - the kindly light of candles, the woodburner is lit in the evenings now, and one of my favourite smells greets me in the morning. I put quince fruits on the east facing windowledge in the bathroom  where the morning sun warms them and scents the room. It's hard to describe scents - the quince ripens in early autumn but still retains a cool llight and sweet fragrance that says summer! Which is lovely for somoeone like me who is still trying to hang on to that season.

Talking of which...

It arrived today and I hung it, adjusted it a bit, and lay in it for five sunny minutes - we shall see how much use I get from it while I resist the coming of autumn and winter for as long as possible.

Lying in the hammock well wrapped up on a crisp clear winter night watching the stars with maybe a mug of hot chocolate... could work!

Nice that you could try out the hammock without noisy machinery to disturb you ! Hanging on to summer is something I do every year but this one is rather damp and drizzly. Love the window sill...are they Japanese quince or Cydonia ? We planted a Lescovka quince a couple of years ago as I missed the smell of the fruit from our old garden but so far not a single quince???

Hi Mary B.
As I understand it, they take about 7 years' to fruit: mine did (Quince Isphahan) but now has 1 to 3 quince yearly.

Ooo! I like the idea of lying out in the garden in your hammock, with the Autumn colours and crisp air, wrapped in jumpers and blankets.

The scent of quince is olfactory heaven to me. I don't have a tree, but try to buy some every year to make jelly ... and for the fragrance of course!

Does the jelly retain the scent?

The jelly has a different scent and is an amazing colour. You can use the strained fruit to make quince paste.
