Simply..I am so choosy....

I am so choosy about where I get my information from. Are you?

I want my news from a person, a named person, one with some editorial/peer review/fact checking background. One whose political affiliation and/or vested interests are known. One who is accoountable. And even then I may retain a degree of scepticism! More than one such source is even better.

I don't want information/misinformation from an anonymous algorithm driven search engine, unaccountable to anyone, which targets me with only what it has decided I want to hear - essenially a robot.

Or maybe I will step off my little soapbox and, just for a bit,  let the world get on with what it does, and feed the birds and observe the snowdrops and the stars  :-)

Lovely.

I don't think that you're on a soapbox, Freda.
You're expressing your considered oppinions.
Women before us, fought for us to have the opportunity to speak freely.
And in 2021, we (I do) still tend to appologise for doing so.

Meanwhile, it's a peaceful respite from thinking, to rest the mind, feeding the birds and watching the stars.
Snow sits on the fields, here, this morning.

Iwe owe so much for the women who went before us. And a respite from thinking is so necessary now and then! It snowed here today which always feels like time off from the serious things in life to me. Loved it.

I agree Freda, and I find myself comparing news coverage on different channels. I fnd I trust C4 news most, it often interviews more grassroots people than the usual talking heads and show more respect. Sounds as if it is really listeneing. I like Doubledown news interms of online news which echos my socialist principles, but i still check in and am horrifued tosee what The DMail or the Sun says on the same issues and wonder about their reach and influence. A great relief that the King of Fake news has gone. Loved the number of times Biden mentioned the need for truth and respect and finding a decent way of acknowledging diffrerences without descending into civil war. And you are right; no algorithmcan appreciates the birds and the stars. Let's celebrate being human. And being diverse, and being abe to change our own minds, acknowledge misconceptions, and understand differerently in the light of new information and insights..

Like you Elizabeth, I like to look at many sources, but I have been reviewing lately just how much time I am willing to spend on keeping incited and up to date. Fascinating though it is , I think I overdid it of late! As the song says I am going to let the world turn without me.... at least for a while.

Good decision, Freda. We have to try to keep sane! Unfortunately part of my current writing project is to set the personal experiences of the last decade for myself and my neighbours against global events so don’t feel able to totally switch off! But do lots of escapist TV with Micheal Palin on train journeys and the Yorkshire Vet and vintage Vera in Northumberland. Keep well and keep looking at the snow and the stars,
