Views of Craig Hoyle Far,
..where wild orchids grow. It was further up the glen than I remembered.. But there were late bluebells by Hilary's wood And patches of bugle which isn't very common here. Views of Craig Hoyle Far, A nice mossy rock under an oak tree to sit and have a drink of water. But no orchids! Maybe because the field is being grazed, maybe I was too late, maybe I was too early. Will I walk the five miles again to check? I'm not sure...

Shame there were no orchids but it looks like a lovely walk. I was out for a walk with a friend on Sunday and noticed I saw only one orchid. Perhaps the very dry spring has affected them though the clumps in my garden are fine. Think you have to chalk that walk up to being about the journey not the destination, Freda.

Yes, that’s wise Sheena, and it was the most exercise I have had in weeks!

close to us is a field filled with red poppies & some sort of blue flower (flower identifier I'm not). I love seeing this field & will be sad when their time for blooming is over.

I wonder if they were cornflowers. They often appear together.

Smart to have saved one of your first, longer walks for a cooler day. No long walks here (would have to drive too far to find a place to walk--twisty back country roads with no verges are too dangerous). Have contented myself with online exercise videos (no zoom or such). No pretty scenery or fresh air, but it will be 32c and humid today anyway--so not missing that! My compensation is to turn off the video volume and listen to an audiobook instead--keeps me entertained while I follow the movements.

You are clearly not easily put off your exercise! Yesterday was just right for a walk here. Today rain, tomorrow too warm again - but nowhere near 32 thankfully.

That's quite a distance for a first walk, do your feet (or legs) remind you of it today? But wild orchids, even those only in your memories, I can't think of a better reason to go for a long walk. And curious again: who is Hilary? Somehow I so much hope it's a 'she' that has a wood named after her.

It was a silly distance and my feet and legs ached like mad (a hot bath in the afternoon felt decadent, but helped).Sadly the wood was planted in memory of a young woman who died in a horrific car accident many years ago. It is a lovely place.
