Simply..in Berlin....

I was staying with my artist friend Lynne Cameron who is living and working in Berlin and has an exhibition at Under The Mango Tree Gallery in the attractive Schoneberg district - good restaurants, stylish clothes shops, great coffee shops and a Saturday market with traditional German cakes, Turkish food and Polish specialities, Christmas foliage and amaryllis and masses of mistletoe.

I have such fond memories of visiting the Christmas market in Nuremberg years ago...nothing like it in the US that I'm aware of. Glad you are safe.

Lynne voices the concern of many of us when she speaks about the void of leadership that would help us to seek ways to live peacefully together. Instead we have a surfit of so-called leaders who rush to judgement with ugly tweets and battle cries of paranoia. Merkel's voice is muted among the shrill voices of autocracy. And, as Lynne says, "How do we find leaders who can be trusted" to do the right thing? To bring reasoned judgement. To lead us to peace--not hate. I wish I knew the answer.

Thank you for your comments. Lynne said today that in Berlin 'there is a strong determined mood now, that values of freedom and democracy and openess matter, and that we have to work to keep them alive.'
