Wonderful photos and I love the colour contrast between the first two.
Can you (or anyone) possibly identify the plant in the third photo please?
I have a red form of this, some of which I dug up and brought with me to the rental house.
Now, of course, without a label, the name has totally escaped me.....
It's persicaria 'Firetail' and has to be watched or it will crochet itself all through the garden!
Ah! Thank you Freda. Somehow the name persicaria just will not stick in my head.
I am so very fond of this plant, I bought it many years ago from a Country Market, whilst on holiday. I never dreamt then that I would end up living in that same small town, which is where we have just bought our new house.
At my previous house, it behaved itself politely, spreading gradually outwards but never taking up too much room. That was on very sandy soil and we shall soon have clay, so I will heed your warning!
Love the mix of colour and texture. Easy to see that you 'paint' with your garden, too.
A total sensory experience! Love it.
Lovely! Were you gardening or relaxing Freda? Too hot here at the moment to garden!
A gently warm day's gardening - full of bees and scents. Just perfect. (Cooler and wetter today.)
Now I am curious about where you live...
At the moment, just east of Hereford.
Our new “proper” house (as one of our grandsons calls it) is in Ledbury but we shan’t be in that for a while.
It was at Ledbury Country Market that I bought the persicaria from a gentleman and his wife who garden just outside Malvern and raise lovely and unusual plants to sell.
Ah! I remembered the name!
A beautiful part of the country.
I am content with my lake cottage summer life in a forest, but when i see garden photos such as these, i yearn to be gardening again! There is nothing more satisfying, is there, than to plant a tiny seed and out of that, year after year, comes splendor?
Deeply satisfying and never fails to delight me.
