Simply..it took....

It took five buses, one train and two ferries to get to Edinburgh and back yesterday on an impulse trip to catch the Joan Eardley exhibition on its penultiimate day.

It was wonderful to be in Edinburgh again, and in an art gallery again! And so worth it to see this exhibition. 42 works of breathtaking honesty, compassion and sheer bravery.  It takes courage to do your own thing and put it out in the world to be judged.

Reproductions are of course pretty amazing,  but nothing is so moving as standing in ftont of the real thing! How I have missed it. Have you?

My favourite little cafe/delicatessen G&T a few doors up from The Scottish Gallery has changed hands after many decades, but they do a nice cappuccino.

Life is looking up.

That was a marathon journey, Freda, so pleased that you enjoyed your day and the exhibition. Am full of admiration for your fortitude coping with varieties of transport as I travelled into Glasgow by bus yesterday to meet a friend, first time since last year, and was exhausted by the time I got home. Culture shock after months of quiet life.

It does feel like a culture shock! And it seemed like a major decision to go.

But I am so glad I did. I hope you enjoyed Glasgow.

Glad you enjoyed your adventure but your journey would have sent me scurrying back to the hammock . I think like Sheena , I am suffering from culture shock after months of slowpaced gentle living.

A journey which I would once have considered fairly routine, felt like a huge adventure! So strange.

Hope to be visiting Edinburgh again soon - and staying not too far from the Scottish Gallery on Dundas Street ! I enjoyed looking at the Joan Eardley paintings via your link. Love Edinburgh !

I hope you enjoy your trip Rosemary. To be near Dundas Street will be excellent. So many galleries!

I love Joan Eardley's work. When we were in Glasgow recently, we went to see a Whistler exhibition at the Hunterian gallery. There was also a small space dedicated to Eardley.

So glad you got to see' the exthibitioni. It's so hard to create on your own, without the contact with other peoples' work. Yes, your garden is an inspiration, but you need input from others as well. While your journey sounds tiring, it must have given you a lot of opportunities to see (and even talk to) new people. I find that one of the things I've most missed during lockdowns is talking to new people, even if it's just a couple of sentences in a shop queue. Last weekend I was at a folk festival and was on a high with people and music all around me!
