Even when the decorator phones late on Sunday, after you have stripped three rooms, to say he can't come this Monday, will next Monday do!!!

Aarrgh!

Not quite on the same level as your situation, but I've been waiting for a replacement dishwasher since I ordered one July 5th. Seven delivery date delays later...still waiting.

Asked for an estimate for new trees and while waiting, a very large tree crashed down in a storm landing precisely where I wanted the new line of trees. So then asked a tree service for estimate to cut up the tree. Took three weeks to get it, only to find the person did not listen to what was requested--complete waste of time. So DH bought a new chainsaw (he killed the old one) this weekend and has slowly begun the task of cutting up the 30m tree. Seems that very little is straightforward these days. :)

Oh my! he has his work cut out! You are so right - nothing is straightforward - perhaps it never was of course but we had other nice things to distract us...

As I suspected, give yet another delivery delay for the dishwasher. Now Oct 9th--that would make it almost 15 weeks since it was ordered. And frankly, I'm not holding my breath for this date, either.

I emptied all the furniture like books off shelves and moved furniture to middle of room. Painter didn’t show, didn’t call, didn’t return my calls. 3 days later, she called to say she had a “paint emergency” and had to take care of that. She was glad to “pencil” me in for a possible other day. I found a professional painter to do the job. Then I restored order back into the living room. Trades ppl say they want to work but then treat customers poorly. Rant over

Was due to have outside of house painted in April. Painter, older man, needed to come in and out of the house/cloakroom during the day for 'comfort' reasons. Understandable, but against the lockdown rules then. Said he would be sure to come asap when things eased. Rang him to arrange this - next available date, March 1st 2021...

At least I am only having to wait a week!

I no longer put up with tradesmen letting me down: not turning up or changing an appointment at the last minute, when it has been agreed in advance.
Nowadays, I cancel and find someone reliable, even if it means searching for a while, and living in some disarray.
Otherwise I feel resentful that the tradesman doesn't value my time or my home. And, I no longer want to waste my time feeling like this.
It has helped weed-out the cowboys, and has left me with a small team of lovely professional chaps (and one chappess) to call on when needs be.

Great to have people you can rely on now. We have a very samll pool of people here to select rom. This chap did do the upstairs a few years ago, and he did a good job so....
It was the short notice that upset me really!

Ah, if he did a good job before, then maybe he has a genuine emergency that delayed him. Maybe you can chat with him about it. Hope all goes very well.

Oh dear, hard to find any positive in that situation but, at least, he did phone! I had the very pleasant experience this afternoon of phoning a plumber who , regretfully, told me that he didn't do the job I was enquiring about but he would come on Friday and do what he could at no charge. I will wait to see if he turns up but am left pondering the old saying about things which are too good to be true.

I do hope he comes. Remember my nice chap who cut the path to the shore - he's still doing it, and for free!
