I've indulged myself this dark month with lots of candles. On the breakfast table until bathtime.
I'm taking a few days blog break now. May you be watm and dry and virus free!

Freda...we will be holding you in our hearts while you take a break...and your candles got me thinking about what latitude you are at...my sister lived in the arctic and by february, she and her husband were what we, in canada, called “bushed”...it had just been dark too long!! I checked and we, in wheeling are at 40 degrees latitude, and you are at 56! To say nothing of all the rain...no wonder february has been a tough month for you, even in the best of times...hope you can surround yourself with love and with some flowers and light! Sending hugs..xoxoxo

Bushed - yes! As you know I usually take a few quiet days to myself around the anniversary of Barry's death but the good wishes and hugs from you help so much! Thank you. It is getting lighter every day now....

I think this is something I will do next January/February. I have found the days darker and gloomier, and myself wishing them to pass, which is not normal for me.

Something lovely that has engaged my mind a few times recently is the 1900 portrait photo of Mariano Fortuny . What a beautiful and creative man he was. I like that he and his wife, Henriette, ( see his charcoal drawing of her), were partners and collaborators in designing, dying, pleating, stencilling their lovely fabrics. But more than that I like that they lived very simply in their ancient palace in Venice. This was their workshop and their home, Henriette doing the washing up and making the beds between working. So many artists made difficult and terrible partners, but Fortuny appears to have loved and liked his wife, made many studies of her, and with her combined a life of both domestic calm and creativity.

It seems the museum/palazzo is not open in March but that needn't stop us doing a little research of course. I don't know if a week is long enought to save for a scarf Rosemary! Perhaps you thought I was going next year? They do sound fascinating as a couple.
