Simply..money matters....

Tee-hee, silly paper napkins (I know, I know a waste of money!)

I have only written two posts under Simply Money - see here, and here.

One of them says I have enough, and one of them is about how I managed when funds were low.

I do still have enough thankfully - the proof being I still give some away (to charities) and I'm still fairly frugal. I think it's in my DNA.

What I now want is to manage what I have more efficiently.

I also want to be peaceful about money!

Is this possible?

I'm starting simply (of course!) by getting ALL the paperwork in one place. (Even online stuff needs organised, but most of mine is still on paper.) I have a one drawer filing cabinet - bursting full! A box of receipts (bursting full) a cardboard file and a pretty  little letter rack thing which I thought would be useful but has turned out to be just another place to stuff things. Before anything else then, I am sifting through and throwing out. I will burn a pile in the garden incinerator, then file the rest. The secret, for me, in getting this job done is to do it in small increments of time - in other words I no longer work at something till I am sick of it and want to pack it in altogether! I have learned to be more focussed - I can now only file. I don't get distracted by reading any of it or trying to make decisions about any of it or become overwhelmed by the scale of it.

I just file it.

Simple.

And a good start.

Have you started yet? Perhaps you have even finished - there are people whom Fly Lady calls Born Organised! I'm not one of them. Fly Lady has a section on finance which is very basic, common sense, straight forward and useful. See it here.

From practical to magical in the click of a shutter. Our mini-meadow gives pleasure out of all proportion to its size. This was it in the afternoon light yesterday....I leave you with these images while I take a wee blog break.

Your mini-meadow is delightful! Regarding money - I hate keeping files and files of things, but never sure when I can shred them. I plan to start scanning most of the paperwork, save it to a thumb drive and simplify like crazy.

Enjoy your blog break!

I'm saving two years bank statements and bills - no more!

The meadow is beautiful. I recently put the bulky filing into box files, so the filing cabinet is full of thinner neat hanging files. Has transformed the filing - now takes minutes!

I aim to have no bulky filing - is this possible I wonder?

Lovely pictures(as always!) Enjoy the Summer with your family. I, too, struggle with paperwork and am also working on it a little at a time. I have archived a lot of it and am going to work through getting rid of it slowly. It's made it more manageable . Pennyx

You now have handed me a brand new project. I think it is a logical next step after finishing reoganising 'all things writing' but become a bit breathless when thinking of it just now. Baby steps most definitely.
I love you meadow at eye height. Wishing you a lovely blogbreak.

Organizing all the paperwork was done several years ago. I do my best to keep it under control just because I feel so much better w/o that stress.

Rest & relax, but don't be gone too long. I just found your blog & don't want to give it up so soon.

Gorgeous mini meadow. I've spread seeds to create a meadow on the lawn that has dappled shade so I can mow a path & also encourage bees & butterflies to pause - can't wait to see how it turns out next year!

I downsized from a 4 drawer filing cabinet to a plastic box that would take up half a filing drawer. I have an incoming basket which has "action", "to file" "receipt" folders so it doesn't get out of hand and though I have filing trays, I'm working on removing them from the equation, so that I go from the "to file" folder into the appropriate pocket. I agree too, done in small increments is best. And of course the shredded paper is great for the composter... now I just need to buy a composter!

I'm putting the ash on the compost! Good luck with your meadow..

I remember Granpa Miller saying we should 10% of what we earn. I'm not that strict about it but I do always save something each month and feel the benefit. Not just in seeing my savings grow but in having my stress levels decrease
