Simply..more books and a new toy....

Well not a toy exactly...I bought a cord free, lightweight (a relative term!) hedgetrimmer which I can use five minutes at a time. I call it a toy because I like playing with clear cut shapes against the wilder parts of the garden - getting the right balance, getting good shapes..it absorbed me - in five minute stretches - all day today. It's a bit like drawing with a giant pencil! And quite hard work - long hot soak required now.

Am loving your reading suggestions - do keep them coming!

Here are a couple of my own: The Summer Book and The Winter Book by Tove Jansson and Sightlines by Kathleen Jamie - in fact anything by these two authors whose writings I can read over and over again.

I'm awaiting delivery of a Bergman two-in-one cordless edge trimmer and shears. Looking forward to shaping-up my wild grass area. Wild flowers appearing, bit patchy but it's a first go.

I love this cordless tool - so much easier. It sometimes takes more than one season for wild flowers to appear - I have just discoered some Ragged Robin - so pretty.

Read this morning and it evoked so much longing. These are the first lines of Fragment 2, (the Overhaul, a collection of poems by, Kathleen Jamie). It's sitting on my desk since early May, when I started alternating the daily poem by Rainer Maria Rilke (The Book of Hours, I always return to Rilke for consolation) with one by Kathleen Jamie. I have both Sightlines and Findings, Surfacing, her latest, tops my wishlist after I added Erosion by Terry Tempest Williams to my personal library.

I too love Kathleen Jamie's work. Surfacing is one of th few new (to me) books I have read this year. I liked her poetry collection Overhaul as well. 'Materials' from that, one of my absolute favourite poems.
