Julia Cameron in her book The Artist's Way recommends starting your day by hand writing three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing.
Have you ever tried it?
Also, I replaced the battery in the bathroom scales.
Oh dear..

Yes, I have tried it - sometimes I can manage three pages, other times not - it is good writing practice though, just to let your mind wander and write out your thoughts can be very interesting. I weighed myself this morning - I have lost one lousy pound - oh well, back to the drawing board :)

And the page.....I have just re-started morning pages after a long break. All lost pounds count.

One pound off here too. And even that is questionable as I may have been trying to tread lightly on the scale..

I know that trick (it doesn't work Jessica!).

Not tried the morning pages - not sure my brain would be up to three pages of writing. I talk nonsense to the cat instead. Would that count?

I am using Julia Cameron's new book Its Never Too Late To Begin Again to give some structure to the next few months, so doing the pages most mornings at present. 1lb is lovely (as is a cuddly grandma!)

Like Julia, I found morning pages very helpful indeed when times were stressful or difficult. I also found it (embarrassingly) easy to rant on for three pages....

I did 'a morning page' before discovering Julia Cameron's Morning Pages as since I don't remember when, reading a poem each morning was followed by writing a page in my journal (or is it diary?). During working with the Artist Way and the period of working with Finding Water I did the three morning pages and then returned to my own only one page. I did and still do use the morning pages whenever I feel cluttered or want to achieve clarity in something.

They are surprisingly useful. I have a friend who has been doing them for many many years. Yay! for clarity. Someone once said 'With loss of illusion comes clarity'.

Yes, I have done morning pages off and on. I find it difficult to stick with it, particularly as I get up very, very early (<4am), commute/drive a long distance and tend to jump right into work. But I also have decades of off/on relationships with journaling, so not surprising that I have trouble sticking with it. Still, I do respect the value of doing something like it.

Maybe it's OK to do it/anything just sometimes? Who says how often we have to do something? When we need it, when it suits us, when we feel like it, when we've got the time or the inclination....
