Simply..motivational....

On impulse at a train station I once bought Your Best Year Yet by Jennie Ditlzer, and a friend and I had fun and got very motivated by working through it together. I passed it on many years ago but have just re-ordered it.

Although I don't expect to have the same experience from it I still like the ten questions Jennie Ditlzer  asks. (You can see them in the preview on Amazon to see if it might be useful to you too.)

As many of you will know, after a bereavement or other loss it is a common thing to lose confidence in yourself. The first question in the book is What did I accomplish?

I found a new notebook and began to list the things I have achieved since Barry died - beyond getting up in the morning, eating and sleeping, and dealing with absolute essentials - which some days felt like big accomplishments in themselves.

Light bulbs flashed!

That looks really interesting. I have a busy few months ahead, but really fancy doing that for the New Year. It's in my Amazon 'basket' to remind me! Obviously you will have had down times, but just from entries on this blog it's obvious that you have achieved a lot!

Freda, I heartily agree with Linda..you are a constant source of inspiration, in the ways you have carried on, in spite of the huge challenges you have faced in the last 20 months....and i admire you for proactively looking at what you want to create for yourself now.

It is often good to go back and redo something like this - I haven't read this book but many years ago I stumbled upon a similar book which helped me - I can't even remember the name now but I do remember it involved a piece of paper divided into 12 squares and a pad of small Post Its. The 12 squares represented areas of your life you wished to change / modify / enhance or things you wanted to do etc and on the post it note you wrote the one change that you thought would either make a difference or help you achieve your goal. Once completed you then added another post it with the next idea and so on. Very simple to do in baby steps.
I am curious to peep inside your book and look at the 10 questions. A diary is always a good way of keeping track of those small accomplishments that you overlook and blogging even better - I am glad the prompt from the book to look back has helped you to realise the achievements you have made this year.
PS got your email and would love to meet if we can get up to the exhibition - will email back - just been a hectic week so far! Take care x

Adding my voice to other commenters that you should be very proud of all you have accomplished in the face of bereavement...definitely just getting up in the morning which I am imagine has sometimes been more than you could bear. But you have done so much more--as the rereading your blog and diary will tell you. You have inspired all of us by your thoughtful perusal of your own feelings and attitudes about life in general over these past difficult months. And by acknowledging what you physically can and cannot do, yet still finding ways to get things accomplished, even if it means asking for help (and I would guess most of us truly dislike asking for help). You have shown great wisdom and fortitude under terrible circumstances--so please list those as things you have accomplished. Lastly, you have developed a long list of admirers, including me. xo

Looking at Jinny Ditzler's questions I realise (again) that I so much admire you for your courageousness to (once again) start an adventure of selfdiscovery. I am aware there is no other way but the one through, if one wants to experience growth and balance and motion but acknowledging this requires courage and resilience.

That's such a beautiful word 'resilience' and it always comes up when I think of you.

I am hesitating to add a personal question and at the same time value your opinion, I hope you won't mind.
In view to Ditzler's book: do you remember if she adresses
this pattern I'd very much like to solve. Too often it makes me sad to notice how adventures, plans,or a project I started with enthousiasm and dedication loose flow and energy in the process. As if all creativity oozes out of it. Is it more discipline that is required?

I think it takes a while to separate out a sense of self after such a long partnership and then to find the confidence in that self... If your accomplishments seem many to us (and they do) when we just see a small glimpse of your life via the blog, the actual tally must be far greater! :-) I hope you have a new sheet of shiny gold stars to put next to each accomplishment on your list Freda! ⭐️

I don't know what to say except thank you all. For the support, thoughtfulness, suggestions and the interesting question Cath...
