Simply..normality....

Blissfully unaffected by Covid, the greenhouse is a place to feel normal, and as part of my staying sane plan in this Covid-Crazy world,  I am spending as much time doing things which feel normal as I can!

A good place to be if you are lucky enough to have one, and perhaps house plants or a window box, or helping someone on their allotment could provide this welcome normality for you if you don't have a garden?

The white gypsophila 'Covent Garden' were sown very late June to go with the sweet peas (which never materialised!) but  five small pots of them prettied up the greenhouse, and made a nice addition to posies. I will do this again next year. The yellow rattle is parasitic on grasses, moderating their growth and allowing the wild flowers a better chance - worth a try.

Sitting contemplating the meadow in July it occurred to me that the blue of a few cornflowers in among this cat's-ear would be stunning. I've sown them in a tray and will prick them out into plug trays and let them overwinter in the greenhouse. Hope springs eternal! Gardeners are optimists.

On yesterday's theme, and today's, I had a very nice surprise present of two tins of seed balls. One tin is butterfly mix wild flowers, the other is bee mix. The wonderful thing about these seed balls is that you simply throw them onto the patch you want to flower. Each ball is made of clay and contains 50 seeds. I have thrown them on and now just have to wait till next summer....

No greenhouse here--yours is a lovely one. My deck garden is looking decidedly shambolic as I continue to cut back on things as they get straggly. Still getting a few last tomatoes--grape and cherry variety only. Have some flowering plants still eking out blooms, but a few heavy frosts (none so far) and they'll be gone. Can't really decide whether to try to some winter plantings on the deck. Our winters can be very harsh.

Gardening in a climate of extremes must require a lot of skill Mary. I was ready to pull out the last of the annuals but a couple of late butterflies stopped me....

More luck than skill, Freda. Didn't mention my red peppers that grew prolifically--but only to the size of a baby's fist. :(
