I rushed out to try and capture this partial rainbow and while I was out, around six o'clock this evening i could hear the wonderful chorus of a raft of eider ducks. We hear them all the time here in winter and spring. If you have four minutes to spare there is a really nice film by a wildlife sound recordist here.

On the beach just there in the second photograph, I used to tell the children 'Listen! The ducks are saying Oooh Heather's here, Oooh there's Andrew and Oooooh Ross has come too!'

I do love living here.

What sounds could you hear at 6pm? City sounds? Traffic? Wildlife? Weather sounds? (There was snow on the hills this morning..silent and beautiful.)

Had to go and look up chickadee! Looks like our coal tit, but sounds very different.

I'm just a little bit north of Julia & we only had a dusting of snow this morning, whew!. I'm also listening to chickadees (they're my very favorite!) & cardinals. Every so often Canadian geese are honking over head. Birds singing is a sure sign of spring.

We live near a river & when the conditions are just right, we sometimes see double rainbows. That's a sight to see. Wonder if that means 2 pots of gold ?

We heard Whooper Swans flying over in the dark later on...going north to breed.

Wow, those are beautifully captured!

At 6 pm we hear churchbells from the 3 churches in town, and a bit of traffic still passing (though quieter by then). Now it's still light we also hear children playing :) Soon it will be lawnmowers, I expect, which will accompany our evening meal!

At that time we hear (and still see this time of year) a pair of ringdoves visiting the tree right in front of our sittingroom window. A bit later there is a meeting of jackdaws on the lawn.

The sound of doves is very nostalgic for me. It reminds me of a place I used to stay....

Wow that must have a magical moment. I'm so glad you managed to capture it and share it with us. To hear the chorus of eider ducks as you witnessed this scene must have been the icing on the cake. I discovered last week that I could now hear skylarks from our back door, it gave me such joy! Sarah x
