Simply..resilient....

..and Manchester and all our great cities.

This slogan ran and ran in Glasgow with further ones saying People Make Glasgow Exciting, People Make Glasgow Vibrant/Caring/Creative/ Generous.

I think we could add People Make Manchester (and any other city which has been the target of terrorists)  Resilient. People make Manchester Brave. People Make Manchester Compassionate. People Make Manchester Strong.

Do you think it helps to talk? I found myself phoning a friend. And thinking of those who must try to talk to their frightened children. There are times when I think there are no words, but we have to find words - of condolence and comfort, words of hope, courage and resilience...

People are amazing.

My colleague was at the Arena with her 12 year old daughter - it was her Xmas present - they got out safely but are traumatised. Another colleague knows someone who died and one who is injured - Manchester is close to us just over the hill - it would be hard not to know someone who was there that night. As you say words are difficult to come by at times like these.

Close to home for you Viv. I lived in Manchester while studying landscape design - it is very like Glasgow. Heartbreaking for so many.

I agree, Freda....it is very hard to know what to say in the face of horror, or any tragedy, or human anguish...but those who are experiencing that terrible pain need us to speak up..to honestly address just what they are experiencing...it takes a kind of courage..but it is aboslutely essential.

Acknowledging what they are going through is all we can do from a distance perhaps.

I think it helps to talk. As long as we can allow ourselves the time for words to come where there are none in the beginning.
I also think speaking out is an act of resilience, of power, of courage.
Speaking out connects.

I like 'speaking out connects' and agree with that Cath.

I was very touched by the accounts of all the people offering help - beds, transport etc. Human nature is so very kind at its core. And I agree, I think talking (to kind, caring people) is essential - it gives trauma a safe place to land.

Those stories were so touching and heartening.

I was in tears hearing about the woman who corralled the young girls separated from their parents at a hotel & started a hash tag on twitter to let people know where the girls were. I don't even understand about hash tags. She had no one at the concert but simply jumped in to help.

So many people did kind and generous things, spontaneously.

The evil starkly contrasts with the goodness of Manchester's people ( taxis turning off their meters to transport concert victims, opening their homes, giving blood)

Exactly, and far outweighs it.
