Simply..romantic cook books....

When I looked at the stacks of cookery books (see yesterday) I knew without a doubt that these were the ones which sparked most joy! I have made a mere two recipes from this collection, but I love them and they have inspired many a Primrose Picnic, Christmas feast, pretty table setting and  dinner for two.

Life mostly demands that we be practical and sensible and efficient, but this collection shows me for the romantic and fanciful soul that I am.

Food is about a lot more than fuel.

I'll be keeping all of these.

Do you have any cookbooks in this category?

So true. The first that came to mind was David Lebovitz's My Paris Kitchen. If only food shopping could always be like this.
I remember asking for a copy of Elizabeth David's Omlette and a Glass of Wine for my birthday decades ago, and I still have it.
And one I would never part with is Christopher Lloyd's Gardener Cook (some very cheap s/h copies on Amazon).
They are all so comforting, and not a calorie involved if you stick to reading !!!

I like your point about the calories!

Yes I bought Alice Waters' book Chez Panisse Menu cookbook because I thought that if I couldn't go there I could pretend. Actually I culled it because I couldn't have realistically made any of the meals and it seemed a bit sad to keep it. I let Skye Gingell go too because her Petersham Nurseries restaurant recipes just didn't translate easily to home cooking. That's often the trouble with chef's cook books. Moro was another one. I had Anton Mossiman in the days of nouvelle cuisine. What was I thinking?

Next time I am in Waterstones I will be browsing (but not buying) the cookbook section.

Only two. One:a cookbook made by the founder of Wagamama,
Hugo Arnold. It reminds me of the times we went there for dinner while staying in Amsterdam, the recipes are doable and the pictures are a joy to look at. The other: a very small book with beautiful photograps made by the vegetarian cook of a spiritual centre nearby, recipes for lunch that one.

Still intrigued by your question. What kind of cook do I wish to be?
And on a side note: Kondo's Spark Joy is coming home from the library today. Gave in. Finally.

Very hygge! The few cookbooks I have are only for inspiration really. Various food sensitivities mean that most recipes need adapting beyond recognition, so mostly I make it up as I go along. I like the creativity in that. A fridge full of leftovers is like a palette of paint - endless possibilities! I sometimes get inspiration online too or from the occasional magazine if it has something mouth watering on the cover... Simple, tasty, organic - that's what I aim for.

They are very hygge (and it is nearly that time of year again!). Your creativity clearly comes into play in this aspect of your life too.

Those books look too good to remove. I was immediately drawn too the Lazy days and beach blankets! They are wonderful books to dream and enjoy even if you don't make anything! Sarah x
