Simply..sitting....

.
.in my recovery position (feet up on the sofa) after an eventful day yesterday.

Our almost stationary car was hit quite hard by another in the third lane of a packed four lane motorway on the way to the city (all ok) to see the ballet.

Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty has a dark twist to it and was captivating. Starting in the Victorian era with Aurora as a (puppet) naughty baby, moving on to Edwardian times and her coming of age (stroppy teenager) then after her 100 years out, into the present day (hoodies and selfies). Vampires, sado-machonism, this is an adult version of the tale. I found the start a bit slow to work its magic, but that may have had something to do with the incident on our journey! The dancing was superb, the sets dramatic and the recorded Tchaikovsky wonderful and eventually it took me out of myself in that wonderful way that good theatre does.....

See a review here

Weather warnings led to an uncertain journey home (would the midnight ferry be cancelled?) and when we got to Loch Long an ominous lack of lights in the shore villages made us wonder....yes, there was a power cut.

So glad of the woodburning stove. I sat by it with a book all day today!

I hope you are having a good weekend.

I recently read Bitter Greens, a retelling of the Rapunzel story....certainly not the Disney version! It will be awhile before I recommend it to Gretchen (age 7)

Glad you weren't more seriously hurt. Rest & recuperate.

I'm glad the accident wasn't more serious and that everyone is okay. Were you rear-ended?

It may be that Sleeping Beauty isn't for the likes of me, either. I'm sure it's really well done, however, I don't do well with drama gone gothic. It's too unsettling.

There were some laughs too I should have said!

Goodness, drama all round... thankfully it seems nobody was hurt, only shaken :(

What an interesting take on Sleeping Beauty, a sort of real-time interpretation, I guess. It sounds like one I would risk, despite being a bit of a traditionalist! I will also look out for Cathy's Rapunzel re-telling, as this is something I find inspiring, even if I don't always enjoy the results of new versions - it takes me out of my comfort zone, a healthy thing now and again!! And of course the original fairy tales were pretty gruesome and not suited to the children of today, in any case...

It was not all Grimm and well worth seeing. It had a happy ending too!

I wonder if the driver who shunted you was distracted by a phone. I see so much of this nowadays. So glad you were able to carry on and enjoy the evening despite the shaky start.

Glad you're ok
You have a gift of turning tart lemons (no power, accident, etc) into sweet lemon meringue pie

i'm with swissrose here..i have to push myself to get out of my comfort zone with "retellings" of favorite tales...and so interesting that you all were literally PUSHED out of your comfort zones, both before and after the performance as well....how is your poor body today? and how about your poor car? hope you have electricity back...enjoy a relaxed sunday!

I was very glad to get back to my sofa comfort zone! I should stress that we and the car were not damaged....luckily, but it is scary in the third lane! Especially getting out of the car.....

Phew, 'the car was hit quite hard by another' bit, hit quite hard.
Fingers crossed now you (both/all) are feeling well today.

Thank you all for your concern = I should have stressed that we are fine, just a teeny bit traumatized!

Wow, that sounds like a very 'full on' day Freda. So glad everyone was ok and good to hear the element of fire worked it's comforting magic yesterday for you. I hope you've had a restful weekend to recover. (Rescue Remedy can really help for any delayed shock.)
The ballet sounds really interesting, I've only ever seen one but the experience was magical. Glad you were able to enjoy it. x

Thank you Lotta. I do adore ballet on so many levels and have been lucky enough to see some wonderful ones.
