What is still flowering near you?
The cosmos are still flowering! I deadhead them frequently and they just keep producing and being visited by the bees and the odd peacock butterfly. I've never grown anything as tall in my three black pots before and I like the way it has screened the seating area and made it into a sort of separate room/ It has rained heavily all day today but yesterday, wearing a thick jacket, I breakfasted outside - french toast (eggy bread) with strawberries. cherries. pomegranite seeds and yoghurt. Yum. I enjoyed it so much I went in and greedilly made another serving.
What is still flowering near you?

Not much. Everything is pretty much fried except for some hardy marigolds (these 'annuals' have been reseeding themselves for more than two decades.) Hardy indeed.

Fried flowers - oh dear. But those marigolds must be stalwarts.

Yes the cosmos with flowers getting ever smaller but still numerous. Also the white Japanese anemone. I have reluctantly cut back the lavender and salvias and started dividing the tough old Libertia which didn't really flower. Another non flowerer was my purple clematis which budded but then turned directly to seed during the drought.

I love your seating area - very inviting, but can I be nosey and ask a question? The yellow hoop? I always notice it when you show that side of the house, but where did it come from? It looks great.

We found it on the beach Linda and painted it yellow. Its very heavy and a bit rusty now. I just love the simplicity of a circle..

My daughter has designed and planted a garden for a wedding and we are almost holding our breath that it will last till next Saturday and that the weather will be kind! There can be a melancholy feeling to gardens from now...

Sometimes I can't help wondering how big your garden is. Today is such an occasion when finding photographs of a new, secret, room.

I suspect it looks bigger than it is in photographs Cath. This corner is the sunniest and I love to sit there. A friend found mini-cosmos which were very pretty and might look great on a balcony (about 2 feet high instead of 3 - 4 feet.)

My Cosmos are not a patch on yours - they got blown about in the strong winds and lashing rain and never recovered properly. Our pots have spent more time at the bottom of the garden in the shade than on the patio this year as it has been too hot to leave them whilst we were in Scotland and once again the builders are here and we have had to clear everything out of their way.
